Exercise
Imagine NASA wants to place a communications satellite into a geostationary orbit
from a low-Earth parking orbit.

Rorbit1 = 6570 km
Rorbit2 = 42,160 km

What is the Vtotal for this transfer and how long will it take ?

Take the gravitational constant G = 6.67 × 10−11Nm2/kg2

Earth mass = 5.98 × 1024 kg

Pointing stability

D=hψ
D: is the pointing stability distance (on surface)
h: Altitude of the satellite

Exercise
The worldview-3 satellite is remoting sensing satellite that provides imagery used in
Google Earth. The imagery requires a pointing stability of 15m. If the worldview-3
satellite is in circular orbit with a semi-major axis of 6878 km, what pointing accuracy
must the satellite ADCS provide (in degree) ?

Exercise
You have been put in charge of the attitude determination and control susbsystem for
a Cubic Nanosatellite of 9Kg at the altitude of 500 Km that has as mission taking
a picture of an area on the earth knowing that it doesn’t tolarate a deviation from nadir
by more than ±50 km.
Determine the corresponding attitude accuracy required. Given this accuracy, complete
a conceptual design of this satellite attitude determination and control subsystem using
the simplest available techniques. Draw a simple block diagram for your resulting
subsystem.
