Daily Work/ Homework: Homework is due at the beginning of class, unless otherwise noted. Make sure to keep up
with your grades on TEAMS. For daily grades, if you fail to turn in the completed assignment on the due date, you may
turn in the completed assignment for a max of 70). Work that is more than 5 days late (weekends not included) may not
be accepted, and will receive a maximum score of 50.
Late Work: Late major assignments will be penalized at the rate of 10 points per consecutive calendar school day; work
handed in after the fifth late consecutive calendar school day earns no more than a 50%. All work that is turned in late,
excused or not, must have a written note explaining how late it is and whether it is excused or not.
Make-up Work and Retesting: It is your responsibility to ask for missing assignments. District policy dictates that a
student receives the same number of days to complete make-up work as the numbers of days he/she was absent. Work that
is due and tests/quizzes that need to be taken on a date in which the student will miss class for an Anderson-affiliated
function (field trip, etc.) must be turned in or completed before the student attends the function. Work that is not
completed will be considered late. If I am not in my room, work may be turned in to Mrs. Newberry in the front office.
Retesting and/or corrections may be offered at my discretion.
Grading: Compositions and major projects count 34%; daily assignments count 33%; quizzes count 33%. Quizzes based
on SAT/ACT/PSAT sections will receive scaled scores. Vocabulary quizzes will be given every other week.

A few things to note:
Be flexible and willing to at least try out new strategies.
Notes and annotations are very important in this class. Make sure to mark up
your texts as we work through them as well as take notes on the subjects we
go over.
If you miss class, make sure to either check the agenda, check with me, or
check with a dependable classmate. You are responsible for whatever work
we do as a class while you are gone.
During your excused make-up work time, the gradebook will give you a score
of PND. After that time has passed, the grade will be MSG until turned in.
Note that all of the grade types are of the same numerical value. Therefore,
it’s very important to complete homework on time as well as prepare for
quizzes.
This is an English class. Although we may discuss math at points, we’ll focus
mainly on English and Humanities.
