ABSTRACT :
Skin disease diagnosis in individuals with darker skin tones presents a persistent
challenge due to their underrepresentation in medical datasets and diagnostic
training resources. This disparity often leads to misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, and
poorer health outcomes, highlighting the urgent need for inclusive diagnostic tools.
Our proposed study aims to develop and evaluate machine learning and deep
learning models capable of accurately identifying dermatological conditions across
diverse skin tones, with a particular focus on melanin-rich skin. We plan to
implement and compare models such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs),
Support Vector Machines (SVMs), and Decision Trees. To address data imbalance
and enhance model performance, we will incorporate techniques like SMOTE
resampling and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). This project seeks not only to
improve diagnostic accuracy for underrepresented populations but also to explore
fairness and generalizability in AI-driven healthcare solutions. The outcomes of this
research could contribute meaningfully to equitable medical diagnostics and inform
future development of inclusive clinical decision-support systems
