I. Objectives
At the end of the learning session the students are expected to:
a. define basic dance terms used in folk dance;
b. demonstrate proper execution of basic folk dance steps; and
c. appreciate the cultural significance and the enjoyment of movement by actively enjoying and
participating in folk dance.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Basic Steps in Folk Dancing
Reference: Physical Education and Health
Grade 8 Learner’s Module pp. 168-169
Materials: Laptop, television, powerpoint presentation, instructional materials
Values: Emphasize how the dance reflects discipline, respect for culture, and cooperation among dancers.

ASSIGNMENT
Perform different Philippine folk dance using the basic dance steps we have learned. The performance will
be next week on April 7, 2025.
Direction: Perform the basic steps of Philippine folk dance following these:
1. Choose a Folk Dance
Select a well-known Philippine folk dance such as:
Tinikling – A dance that mimics the movements of tikling birds as they evade bamboo traps.
Maglalatik – A war dance using coconut shells, portraying a battle between Moros and Christians.
Cariñosa – A courtship dance known for its graceful and flirtatious movements.
Pandanggo sa Ilaw – A dance balancing oil lamps while performing delicate steps.
Sayaw sa Bangko – A dance performed on narrow wooden benches, requiring balance and
coordination.

2. Review Basic Dance Steps


Make sure to practice the basic folk dance steps, including:
Waltz Step – Step, close, step (counts 1-2-3).
Redoba – Step, close, step in a bouncing rhythm.
Mazurka – Step, cut, hop with alternating feet.
Polka – Step, close, step, hop in a lively manner.
Habanera – Step, close, step (slow and graceful).
Heel and Toe Change Step – Touch heel forward, touch toe behind, step forward or sideways.
3. Formation and Execution
Formation: Arrange the dancers in a semi-circle, straight line, or pairs, depending on the chosen dance.
Timing: Move according to the music’s rhythm and beats.
Expression: Smile and maintain graceful movements, as many Philippine folk dances emphasize
storytelling.
Props: If necessary, prepare props such as bamboo poles (Tinikling), oil lamps (Pandanggo sa Ilaw), or
handkerchiefs (Cariñosa).
4. Costume Preparation
For Female Dancers: Wear traditional Maria Clara, Balintawak, or Baro’t Saya.
For Male Dancers: Wear Barong Tagalog or Camisa de Chino with pants.
5. Performance Execution
Start with a proper entrance, greeting the audience.
Perform the chosen dance while ensuring synchronization with your group.
End with a graceful exit or a final pose to conclude the performance.
