1.0 INTRODUCTION
ROUTINE VERTICAL Pile Load Test was conducted on Pile No. BR NO – 79 A2/P9

The aim of testing was to evaluate pile static capacity and measure settlement under
applied load .The test pile has 1200 mm diameter and the test was performed by
maintained load test method . The design load was 400.00 MT and in the Routine
vertical load test , the pile is tested to a maximum of 600.00 MT (i.e. 1.5 × Design Load ;
1.5 × 400.00 MT = 600.00 MT). The total kenteledge loaded is 750.00 MT.

3.0 LOADING APPLICATION JACK AND PRESSURE GUAGE


The load from the Kentledge weight was transferred to the pile head through Hydraulic
Jack (2 Nos. of 850 ton capacity, “ORIENT” make) and the applied load is measured
through a pressure gauge . The jacks were connected to a hydraulic pump and the
pressure gauge paralleled . The calibration data details are presented in the later part
of this report .The effective piston area of the jacks used was 1104.91cm².

DIAL GAUGES
Four Dial Gauges (L.C.0.01 mm) were used for measuring the pile head deflection as specified in
the IS code. The Dial Gauges were supported on the independent datum bars rigidly fixed. The
datum bars were fixed 24 Hrs before the starting of the load test.

4.0 TEST PROCEDURE

The maximum load on the pile during load test was planned to be 1.5 times the design load as per
the specifications given in IS: 2911 (Part 4)–2013. The pile load test was carried out by applying a
increment of 20% of the safe load on the pile. The same way next increment of loading is applied
till the maximum load attains. Unloading is done in the same manner .The pressure was read from
the pressure gauges attached to the hydraulic pump. At each stage of loading the actual gauge
pressure multiplied by the total ram area of jack was the applied load. At each stage the loading
was maintained till such time that the rate of movement of pile head was not more than 0.1mm in
the first 30 minutes or 0.2mm in the first hour. Time and settlement observations were made at
the commencement and completion of each stage of incremental loading and unloading. Same
procedure is followed up to end. The settlement observation was also made at 1 hr intervals
during the period when the applied load is constant.

Two - third of the final load at which the total displacement attains a value of 18 mm or maximum of 2 percent
pile diameter whichever is less unless otherwise required in a given case on the basis of nature and type of
structure in which case, the safe load should be corresponding to the stated total displacement permissible

10.0 CONCLUSION :

The test was carried as per clause 7.1.5 of IS 2911(part 4)- 2013

Test was conducted till full load (600.00 MT) at which the total displacement was 6.32

Mm . According to test at 600.00 MT Load,

Gross settlement = 6.32 mm


Total rebound = 2.68 mm
Net settlement = 3.64 mm

Here Net settlement is 3.64 mm, when test load is 600.00 MT.
From the test result it is concluded the pile meets the desired specification of 400.00 MT as
designed . Hence the pile is OK.
(According to IS 2911 part IV-2013) permissible level of displacement is 18 mm for piles more
than 600 mm dia.
