Summary
The Office of the Chief Economist for the East Asia and Pacific (EAPCE) conducts
economic analysis and provides guidance on strategic economic priorities in the
region. This mission is accomplished through a wide-ranging analytical program that
takes on new, topical, and controversial issues, provides region-wide and cross-
sectoral analysis, and addresses the policy priorities of EAP’s fast-growing and
diverse economies. The Office also serves as the principal spokesperson inside and

EAPCE is looking to recruit several short-term consultants in FY26 to support the
unit’s core analytical products, including the biannual East Asia and Pacific
Economic Update reports and the Programmatic Flagship Series that cover
important topics in EAP economic development such as Fiscal, Labor Market,
Technology, Services, and Trade.
We seek candidates who are passionate about either macro- or micro-economic
research and have excellent data skills. The candidates will have advanced skills in
STATA statistical software and familiarity with development economics research.
Proficiency in other software and programming languages such as MS Excel, R,
Python, and MATLAB is a plus.

Role & Responsibilities
The Short-Term Consultant will be responsible for supporting EAPCE economists
with the data organization, visualization, and analysis of the following research
areas, depending on the consultant’s research expertise:
1. East Asia and Pacific Economic Update: The East Asia and Pacific Economic
Update provides biannual analyses of development trends and economic
policy issues across the East Asia and Pacific region. More information on
previous updates can be found here.
2. EAPCE Programmatic Flagship Series: The Flagship Series consists of EAP
regional reports that focus on issues of longer-term development
significance. The current research topics cover issues in Fiscal, Labor Market,
Services, and Trade sectors.
Expected outputs include:
Programs (.do files) to replicate the analysis, as well as (short) documentation of
the methods when necessary;
Materials for discussion such as charts, results of analytical assessments,
presentations, and short notes as needed;
Briefs and writing inputs for the different tasks mentioned above.
Selection Criteria
A minimum of a Masters’ degree in economics, mathematics, statistics, data
science or related field with strong quantitative component
Advanced skills in STATA programming software are required. Proficiency in
complementary analytical software such as R, Python, or MATLAB is a plus.
Strong analytical skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Strong oral
and written communication skills in English are required.
Proven ability and willingness to work as part of a team in a collaborative
multicultural environment.

knowledge of cross-country information and the ability to link the macro,
institutional, and micro-level behaviors; able to support findings/policy
recommendations with credible analysis and tools.

Note
The consultant will report to Task Team Leader, Dr. Ergys Islamaj (EAPCE, Senior
Economist). However, the consultant will also work closely with other EAPCE team
members and collaborators to ensure the quality and timeliness of the deliverables.
The consultant will be paid a daily rate according to the rates for international STC
assignments with the World Bank.
The TTL and the RA will agree upon the outputs, the number of days required for
the outputs, and the timing of the payment requests in advance. Payment will be
made after submission of the agreed-upon outputs according to the normal
procedures of the World Bank.
