Coursework 2: Case study essay

This coursework will require from you to produce an essay between (between 1,200 and 1,500
words, excluding bibliography) on a selected case study related to climate justice. This can be on
the topic of your choice, and can concern the local, national, regional or global scale. The
Environmental Justice Atlas (ejatlas.org) is a good resource to consult if you are not sure which
topic to choose.

The essay should be properly sourced and referenced. The citation style is up to you, as long as it
is consistent. You are expected to use a theoretical framework that will guide you in your
analysis. You can use the theories mentioned during the lectures and seminars or any other
theory that you believe would be relevant for your case study. You do not need to collect primary
data (e.g. conduct surveys and interviews, produce maps or any other outputs) and can rely solely
on secondary data.

If you require guidance with regards to the selection of your case study, theoretical framework or
sources or anything else, please get in touch with the module leader or the programme
coordinator.

The essay should include the following sections marked with clear headings:

 Introduction, including your main thesis and essay overview

 Literature review, where you explain your theoretical framework

 Case study background, including information/data on your case study

 Critical analysis, in which you will apply theory to your case study

 Conclusion, in which you should summarize your essay and main findings

 Bibliography.

Detailed essay marking criteria are included on the next page.
