TASK 05-51-11-200-004-C
Inspections After a Hard Landing or a Hard Overweight Landing for Aircraft with FDIMU Load R
eport 15 included in Software 10TVSW2 or 10TVSW5

1. Reason for the Job

After a Flight Crew Report (FCR) of a hard landing or a hard overweight landing, or afte
r the generation of load report <15> (trigger code 4XXX), you must do an analysis of t
he landing parameters. If necessary, do the subsequent steps.
If the hard landing occurs only on the MLG, use:
- The flowchart in the figure "Flow Chart for the Aircraft with Enhanced latest DMU/
FDIMU".
- The load report <15>.
If the hard landing occurs on the NLG, the flowchart in the figure "Flow Chart for the Air
craft with Enhanced latest DMU/FDIMU" and the load report <15> are not applicable.
A tail runway impact can occur at the same time during the hard landing. For the inspe
ctions necessary after the tail runway impact, refer to task 05-51-21-200-001-A in add
ition to the task given in the ATA 05-51-11.
If the landing occurs with a deflated shock absorber, damage can occur on the landing
gear components or on the adjacent structure. It is possible that the FCR or load repor
t <15> does not identify this damage. Contact Airbus for more instructions before the
next flight.

NOTE: This AMM task is only applicable for the aircraft with the Flight Data Interface
and Management Unit (FDIMU) installed with the software and subsequent ve
rsion that follow:

- 10TVSW5 PN 263321489-0195
- 10TVSW5 PN 263321489-0285
To know the part numbers of the Data Management Unit (DMU)/FDIMU and t
he related software, refer to the Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) identification pa
ge or Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) 31-36-08.

SUBTASK 05-51-11-210-173-A
A. Inspection Requirements for a Hard Landing
(1) Definitions
There are different categories of hard landings:

NOTE: The landing phase has an initial impact with the ground and can
also include subsequent impacts (rebounds or bounce).

(a) Hard landing on the MLG:

The assessment of a hard landing is based on the following paramet
ers:
- Nz kpi: This indicator is calculated by the below parameters r
ecorded around first and second (if any) touchdown times: v
ertical acceleration, aircraft gross weight and roll angle.
- Ny kpi: This indicator of lateral acceleration at first and secon
d (in case of a bounce landing) touchdown.
The landing events are then classified according to the severit
y as hard landing/hard overweight landing (Amber zone) or se
vere hard landing/severe hard-overweight landing (Red zone).
The classification is made with the values of the computed Nz
kpi/Ny kpi and summed up by the load report <15> trigger co
de:

1 Hard landing (Amber zone):
A hard landing is a landing during which 1.80 <= Nz kpi <=
2.06 or 0.45 <= Ny kpi <= 0.5. The associated LR15 trigger
codes are 4520 or 4620.

2 Hard overweight landing (Amber zone):

A hard overweight landing is a landing during which 1.80 <=
Nz kpi <= 2.06 or 0.45 <= Ny kpi <= 0.5. The associated LR
15 trigger codes are 4420 or 4320.

3 Severe hard landing (Red zone):

A severe hard landing is a landing during which Nz kpi >= 2.
06 or Ny kpi >= 0.5. The associated LR15 trigger codes are 4
510 or 4610.

4 Severe hard-overweight landing (Red zone):

A severe hard-overweight landing is a landing during which N
z kpi >= 2.06 or Ny kpi >= 0.5. The associated LR15 trigger
codes are 4410 or 4310.

5 Normal landing (Green zone):

A normal landing is a landing during which Nz kpi < 1.80 and
Ny kpi < 0.45. The associated LR15 trigger codes are 7XXX.
For more details, refer to DMU load report<15> Ref. AMM TA
SK 31-37-00-200-001.

(b) Hard landing on the NLG:

A hard landing on the NLG is a landing where the flight crew report
gives the information about:
- A touchdown on the NLG or
- A hard touchdown on the MLG and NLG at the same time or
- A landing with high pitch-rate de-rotation.
(2) Confirmation and instructions for a hard landing
It is the responsibility of the flight crew to make a report if they think that
there was a hard landing or a hard overweight landing.
Airbus recommends to get information from the flight crew about the landi
ng conditions, for example:
- A touchdown on the MLG or on the NLG or on the MLG and the NLG
at the same time or with high pitch-rate de-rotation
- A touchdown that is straight, drifting, with wing low, with tail heavy,
with nose heavy or with a bounce
- The weight of the aircraft
- Other related information such as noise and vibration because of str
uctural failure.

(a) Confirmation and instructions for hard landing or a hard overweight

landing on the MLG only

1 After a crew report of a hard landing or after the generation

of a load report <15> (trigger code 4XXX):
You must extract the LR15 and do the analysis of the trigger
code or Nz kpi/Ny kpi indicator according to the classification
given above to find the category of the landing.
If the load report <15> is available, get the values that follo
w:

a If the category of the landing is a hard landing or a ha
rd overweight landing (Amber zone):
- Do the inspections for a hard landing or a hard
overweight landing.

b If the category of the landing is a severe hard landing

or a severe hard-overweight landing (Red zone), you
must:
- Do the inspections for a severe hard landing or
a severe hard-overweight landing.
- Send the raw data from the DFDR or the QAR to
Airbus.
- Send the data about the event and inspection re
sults to Airbus.
- Contact Airbus for technical instructions.
