SCIENCE CLASS 10 – CHEAT SHEET
CHEMICAL REACTIONS & EQUATIONS
Important Types of Reactions:
- Combination: A + B → AB (e.g., CaO + H₂O → Ca(OH)₂)
- Decomposition: AB → A + B (e.g., 2H₂O → 2H₂ + O₂)
- Displacement: A + BC → AC + B (Zn + CuSO₄ → ZnSO₄ + Cu)
- Double Displacement: AB + CD → AD + CB (e.g., AgNO₃ + NaCl → AgCl + NaNO₃)
- Redox = Reduction + Oxidation
Signs of chemical change: Gas, color change, temperature change, precipitate.
ACIDS, BASES & SALTS
- Acid: Turns blue litmus red, sour, gives H⁺ ions.
- Base: Turns red litmus blue, bitter, gives OH⁻ ions.
- Neutralization: Acid + Base → Salt + Water
- Important Salt: Baking soda – NaHCO₃ (used in cooking)
pH Scale:
- 0–6: Acidic
- 7: Neutral
- 8–14: Basic
LIGHT – REFLECTION & REFRACTION
Mirror Formulas:
- 1/f = 1/v - 1/u
- Concave = Real & Inverted (except when close → virtual)
- Convex = Virtual & Upright always
Lens Formulas:
- Convex lens focuses light
- 1/f = 1/v - 1/u
Dispersion: Splitting of white light into 7 colors
TIR: Total internal reflection (used in optical fibers)
ELECTRICITY
- V = IR → Ohm’s Law
- P = VI → Power
- R_total = R₁ + R₂ + ... (Series)
- 1/R = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂ + ... (Parallel)
More current flows in parallel, less in series.
LIFE PROCESSES
Key Processes:
- Nutrition:
- Plants → Photosynthesis (CO₂ + H₂O → Glucose + O₂)
- Humans → Ingestion → Digestion → Absorption → Assimilation → Egestion
- Respiration: Glucose + O₂ → CO₂ + H₂O + Energy (ATP)
- Transportation:
- Blood: RBC (O₂), WBC (defense), Platelets (clotting)
- Xylem (water), Phloem (food)
- Excretion: Kidneys → Nephron → Urine
