Grade 3 Math: Simple Formulas with Examples


1. Addition
Formula: a + b = sum
Example: 234 + 123 = 357

2. Subtraction
Formula: a - b = difference
Example: 456 - 123 = 333

3. Multiplication
Formula: a × b = product
Example: 6 × 4 = 24

4. Division
Formula: a ÷ b = quotient
Example: 20 ÷ 5 = 4

5. Perimeter of Rectangle
Formula: 2 × (length + width)
Example: 2 × (5 + 3) = 2 × 8 = 16 units

6. Perimeter of Square
Formula: 4 × side
Example: 4 × 6 = 24 units

7. Finding Half / Quarter


Formula: Half = number ÷ 2
Example: Half of 18 = 18 ÷ 2 = 9

Quarter = number ÷ 4
Example: Quarter of 20 = 20 ÷ 4 = 5

8. Time Conversion
1 hour = 60 minutes
Example: 2 hours = 2 × 60 = 120 minutes

9. Length Conversion
1 meter = 100 centimeters
Example: 3 meters = 3 × 100 = 300 cm

10. Mass Conversion


1 kilogram = 1,000 grams
Example: 2 kg = 2 × 1,000 = 2,000 g
