Addressing the root causes of crime/ commit crime/ rehabilitation programs/

inmate/prisoner/offender.
Prison is the common way in most countries to solve the problem of crime. However, a
more effective solution is to provide people with a better education.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

In many parts of the world, it is believed that prison is the best way to deter
criminals. Nevertheless, others argue that providing people a better
education is superior in the long term. Personally, I partly agree with this
suggestion based on some reasons that are explained in this essay.

On the one hand, there are several reasons that explain why the government
should apply prison to solve crime problem. It is true that when lawbreakers
are imprisoned, they may become more aware of the consequences of their
actions and learn to reflect on mistakes. Moreover, many prisons offer
vocational and educational training, which help inmates learn useful skills
that support their integration into society after being released, reducing the
percentage of recidivism of criminals. For example, thanks to the
effectiveness of rehabilitation programs, the rate of reoffending in Asian
nations has decreased significantly.

On the one hand, other suggest that offering people better education can be
more effective in addressing the root causes of crime. There is no doubt that
a society without crime is extremely ideal, meaning that the governments
and school should be responsible for educating people, helping them avoid
breaking the law. While the authorities can run public awareness campaigns
to help people understand the consequences if they commit crime. The
educational institutions should teach students the importance of becoming
good citizens. Thus, all measures mentioned above can help create a better
society, where people can live without any threats to their safety.

In conclusion, while prisons can help reduce crime rates through

rehabilitation programs, education plays a proactive role in preventing crime.
A combination of both approaches is likely to shape an ideal society for
people.
