Ask students:
● Have you ever felt like an outsider?
● Is it better to be feared or respected?

🔥 Bonus icebreaker: "You are transported into a faerie court. What role do you play—warrior, spy, ruler, or
trickster?"
📖 Reading Activity (15–20 min): “Jude vs. Cardan”
Excerpt Suggestion: The scene where Jude stands up to Cardan (or the one where she eats faerie food even
though she knows it’s dangerous).
Let me know if you’d like a simplified/modified excerpt and I’ll create one!
Vocabulary to pre-teach:
● Court (noun – royal court)
● Defy
● Humiliation
● Manipulate
● Mortal / Immortal
● Outcast

2. Each group creates their own faerie court: name, values, rules.
3. One student is a newcomer. The court must decide if they are:
○ Worthy

○ Useful
🎭 Add twists: the newcomer has a secret. One person is betraying the group.
💬 Discussion (10–15 min): "Is Power Worth It?"
Write on board:
“You don’t have to be cruel to be powerful.”
“Jude wants to belong, but at what cost?”
Debate questions:
● Is Jude's ambition justified?
● Can someone like Cardan change?
● Is it better to fit in or stand out?
Students vote: “Jude is a hero / Jude is just like them / She’s something entirely new.”
