REED REVIEWER

2199 The fourth commandment is addressed expressly to children in their

relationship to their father and mother, because this relationship is the most
universal. It likewise concerns the ties of kinship between members of the
extended family.

- The children and their relationship with their parent is highlighted sa

commandment na ito such as childre should show their pagiging respectful
sa parent nila and kailangan na maipaintindi sa bata na this kind of attitude
such as being respectful, masunorin, at iba pa should be practiced.

- Also It's about showing and applying the respect not just only sa parents
but also sa iba pang part ng family especially kung they are more older
than us.

- Just like sa sinabi ko It requires honor, affection, and gratitude toward

elders and ancestors.
- Finally, it extends to the duties of pupils to teachers, employees to
employers, subordinates to leaders, citizens to their country, and to those
who administer or govern it.

- Also it could be extended to any any people and situation.

- E apply sa iba pang bagay kagaya sa trabaho, school at iba pa
3. Uphold the Order of Society

● This commandment serves as a bridge between the first four

commandments (our duty to God) and the last five (our duty to others).
Honoring parents fosters respect for authority, which extends to leadership
and law, promoting social stability.

4. Reflect God's Authority

● Just as we honor and obey our earthly parents, we are reminded to honor
God, our ultimate Father. Disrespect toward parents can reflect a heart that
resists divine authority

- Palagi ko naririnig sa parent ko to pag minsan npapasagot ako sa kanila

- “Pag bastos ka amin ay bastos ka din sa panginoon”
- Honoring and obeying our earthly parents is not just about showing respect
to them—it is also a reflection of our relationship with God.
- Learning to honor our parents helps shape our character and instills values
such as humility, patience, and respect. These qualities prepare us to
submit to God's guidance in our lives. When we resist parental authority,
we risk developing a hardened heart that can also resist God's discipline
and wisdom.
- By honoring our earthly parents, we learn the discipline of honoring God. A
heart that willingly respects and obeys parental authority is more likely to
submit to God’s authority, leading to a life of blessing, peace, and spiritual
growth.

5. Receive God's Blessing

● The commandment comes with a promise: “that your days may be long
in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”
The promise attached to this commandment has both a practical and
spiritual significance:

A. Practical Application – Longevity and Stability

❖ A child who listens to their parents avoids many pitfalls in life—bad

company, dangerous choices, and destructive habits.

❖ Learning discipline and wisdom from parents often leads to a

healthier and more prosperous life.

❖ Societies where family honor is upheld tend to be more stable,

secure, and successful.

B. Spiritual Application – A Life Under God’s Blessing

❖ In the Old Testament, Israel’s prosperity in the Promised Land

depended on their obedience to God’s laws. Honoring parents was a
key part of maintaining that covenant.

❖ Even today, honoring our parents aligns us with God’s will and
invites His favor into our lives.

❖ This promise also extends to eternal life—those who honor God (our
ultimate Father) and live righteously will inherit His eternal kingdom.

● This suggests that honoring parents leads to a well-ordered, blessed life,

both personally and within the broader community.

In essence, this commandment is not just about family relationships—it is about

living in obedience, respect, and integrity under God’s divine order.
Reflection obrdience

Obedience to parents is a fundamental principle that reflects respect, humility,

and love. It is not just about following rules but about acknowledging the wisdom,
guidance, and care that parents provide. The Bible teaches that honoring and
obeying parents brings blessings and aligns us with God's will.

Blessings of Obedience

The Bible is clear that obedience brings blessings:

● Deuteronomy 28:1-2 – "If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully
follow all his commands, the Lord your God will set you high above all the
nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you
if you obey the Lord your God."

● Ephesians 6:1-3 – "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Honor your father and mother—which is the first commandment with a
promise—so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life
on the earth."
