2. What is InkSave DLC?
DLC stands for Dynamic Low-Ink Coverage. This is an additional method to save more ink. As with the classic
InkSave module we maintain the color gamut and we guarantee there will be no color differences. With DLC we
make some cuts in the color gamut so that it becomes smaller, but the cuts are done in areas where color
differences will not be noticed.
If you use the advised InkSave some areas in an image still contain a lot of neutrals:
On these areas there can be done more InkSave without having a color difference. This is where DLC will be
used:
Although this need to be used with care, there can be achieved more InkSave.
This document describes how to install and use the InkSave DLC.
3. Installing DLC
3.1. Licensing
To use InkSave DLC a dedicated licensing is needed. This is a different license as you have for InkSave. This
license is connected to a general plate contract and can’t not be ordered separately.
The name of the license you need is INK_SAVING_DYNAMIC_LOWINK_COVERAGE.
If you do not have this license you will not be able to choose the DLC settings.
3.2. InkSave presets
With prepress 10.5 new InkSave presets are made.
You need to install these InkSave Presets in the press TP:

The Boosted presets are for the DLC InkSave.
The Ink Limits will have a different selection in these presets.
If you are not licensed the “Dynamic Low-ink Coverage” option will not be
available.

4. DLC settings
In the InkSave sets you will see 2 Boosted/ DLC presets: 1 for coated paper and 1 for uncoated:
Change 1 of these settings can create color differences or inversions that has effect on the image quality.
Please only use these adviced presets.
IMPORTANT NOTE!
Also important is to check the PDF Render CMS settings!
In the Output Conversion set the “minimize underfilling” must be DISABLED! If this is not disabled, the DLC
InkSave will create not more, but less InkSave in comparison with the normal advised InkSave.
