IMPLEMENT BASIC SEARCH
STRATEGIES 8-PUZZLE PROBLEM
The 8-puzzle is typically played on a 3x3
grid, which provides a 3x3 square
arrangement for tiles. This grid structure is
fundamental to the problem's
organization. The puzzle comprises 8
numbered tiles (usually from 1 to 8) and
one blank tile. These numbered tiles can
be slid into adjacent positions (horizontally
or vertically) when there's an available
space, which is occupied by the blank tile.
The objective of the 8-puzzle is to
transform an initial state, defined by the
arrangement of the tiles on the grid, into a
specified goal state. The goal state is often
a predefined configuration, such as having
the tiles arranged in ascending order from
left to right and top to bottom, with the
blank tile in the bottom-right corner.

THE TASK GIVEN IS 8-PUZZLE

PROBLEM
We assigned a task of creating 8-
PUZZLE PROBLEM to the student’s
using python in P.C. MAHALANOBIS
DATA ANALYTICS LAB.. most of the
students tried to create solve the
problem in python, some of them
successfully created solved.
OBSERVATIONS:
A total of 65 students attended the
session and 45 students successfully
solved the problem .
The remaining 20 students end up the
task in different stages of progress.

VIRTUAL LAB

WORKING WITH CLOUD

SIMULATION TOOLS
In
VIRTUAL LAB
1. Multilayer Feedforward Neural Network (MLFFNN):
Architecture of multilayer feedforward neural network
It can be shown that a multilayer feedforward neural
network (MLFFNN) with at least two intermediate
layers in addition to the input and output layers can
perform any pattern classification task. For this to be
true, the units in the hidden layers and the output
layer must be nonlinear in nature. Such an MLFFNN
can be used for pattern mapping tasks. Given a set of
input-output pairs of pattern vectors, the task of
pattern mapping involves determining the set of
weights which can transform the input vectors into the
output vectors. Thus, a systematic way of updating the
weights is required. To update the weights in a
supervised manner, it is necessary to know the desired
output for each unit in the hidden and the output
layers. Once the desired output for a unit is known, the
error between the desired output and the actual
output can be computed. This error, in turn, can be
used to modify the weights associated with the unit.
However, the desired output is known only for the
units in the output layer, and not for the units in the
hidden layers. This issue is addressed by employing
backpropagation algorithm.
2. Perceptron learning: A perceptron is a model of a
biological neuron. The input to a perceptron is an M-
dimensional vector, and each component/dimension
of the vector is scaled by a weight. The sum of
weighted inputs is computed and compared against a
threshold. If the weighted sum exceeds the threshold,
the output of the perceptron is '1'. Otherwise, the
output of the perceptron is '-1' (or '0'). The output
function of a perceptron is hard-limiting function. Thus
the output of the perceptron is binary in nature. The
following figure illustrates a perceptron.
3. Hopfield Model for Pattern Storage Task: Pattern
storage is generally accomplished by a feedback
network consisting of processing units with non-linear
output functions. The outputs of all the processing
units at any instant of time define the output state of
the network at that instant. Associated with each
output state is an energy, which depends on the
network parameters like the weights and bias, besides
the state of the network. The energy as a function of
state corresponds to an energy landscape. The
feedback among the units and the non-linear
processing in the units may create basins of attraction
in the energy landscape, when the weights satisfy
certain constraints. The basins of attraction in the
energy landscape tend to be the regions of stable
equilibrium states. The fixed points in these regions
correspond to the state of the energy minima, and
they are used to store the desired patterns. These
stored patterns can be recalled even with approximate
patterns as inputs. The number of patterns that can be
stored is called the capacity of the network. The
following figures illustrates the concept of energy
landscape.
OBSERVATIONS
The chosen states which are within a Hamming
distance of 1 can't be made stable states together.
For states which can be made stable, there is a set
of values of weights and thresholds that satisfies
the corresponding inequalities sufficing which, the
model always has chosen states as ones with
minimum energy.
The state transition diagram generated has
positive probabilities to start from any state and
end up in stable states.
