Application and dosage
The preparation of mixture must be performed continuously with specific automatic
mixing devices, designed for high reactive adhesives.
PURBINDER MP 860/MP 768 must be applied only on lamination machines specially
designed for solvent-free adhesives. Temperature should be maintained between 45
and 55 °C. The coating weight is normally 1.5 g/m2 for neutral laminates, up to 2,5-2,8
g/m2 for highly printed laminates.
Reel cutting
PURBINDER MP860/MP768 gives good values of adhesion for reel cutting just a few
hours after application related to stocking temperature.
Polymerisation
Complete polymerisation occurs normally within 7 days from application. Very low
ambient temperatures can slow down polymerisation.

Cleaning
For clean operations, after enlarged machine stops longer than 15-20 minutes, it is
necessary to rinse the application rollers with suitable solvents, such as ethyl acetate,
MEK, acetone, DMF as well as our product DISSOLVER NMP (in increasing order of
efficacy).
Storage
When stored in the original unopened containers at temperature between 10 and 30
°C PURBINDER MP 860 has a minimum storage life of 9 months.
PURBINDER MP 768 has a storage life of 24 months.
Health and Safety
As the adhesive contains di-isocyanates, it is preferable to avoid contact with the skin
and with food products. This precaution only applies to non polymerised adhesive, that
is, in its delivered state.
Purbinder MP 860 / MP 768 contains monomeric MDI. The TLV limits for monomeric
isocyanates will not be reached with normal air circulation conditions.
Before using Purbinder MP 860 / MP 768 it is advisable to read the material safety
data sheet carefully.
Compliance with regulations
This adhesive can be used for the production of laminates for food packaging within
the limits relative to each countries legislation and in particular:
- ITALY: DM 21/03/73 and subsequent modification;
- GERMANY: BGA XXVIII - 01/10/83;
- CEE: 90/128; and subsequent modification;
- USA: FDA 175.105

As the final performance of the laminates depend on several parameters (such as composition, additives,
wettability of the material to be laminated, inks), it is necessary to evaluated products under both end-use
and production conditions, before undertaking any commercial production.
With two components solvent-less adhesive, a failure in the sealing properties of PE film used may happen
due to the possible migration of monomer through the PE layer.
This migration is related to the composition of PE film.
