1001 WORDS USED IN ARGENTINA THAT ARE NOT IN THE

DICTIONARY OF ARGENTINE SPEECH

The Argentine Academy of Letters published its Dictionary of the speech of the
Argentinians (DIHA). The criterion adopted by this institution establishes that in it there is no
the words of common meaning with Spain appear, based on what is recorded in the
Dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (DRAE) from 2001. On the other hand, they are included.

As is logical, thousands of words have been left out of the DIHA. On this page, there
they include words that do not appear in this work nor in the DRAE. There are cases in the
that we offer a voice that appears in one of the reference dictionaries: it

or of some that the DRAE gives with a similar meaning and with a usage label in a country

In this list of absent words we try to maintain similar criteria to the

extensive of the meaning 'to bear, to endure someone or something', given by the
dictionaries that we take as reference. They also record 'maintain or support
to someone' and 'to take responsibility, to take charge of a situation', all used in the
Argentina and Uruguay, except for the last one, whose use is recorded by the RAE only in the
Argentina.

beaten, battered. adj. slang. Said of a thing and figuratively of a person: very
worn out, and deteriorated as a result. [ElDRAE brings 'experienced in a job,
in a business, etc.' and 'mistreated by a difficult situation or life.'

approval, etc., but lacking solid arguments or knowledge.
