HYMN OF EPIPHANY
Light requires light:

Your birth, oh Christ our God,

he illuminated the world with the light of wisdom,
well, those who worshipped the stars,
by the star they learned to worship you,
oh Sun of Justice, and to know you,
East from above. Lord, glory to You!

O cruel Herod, why do you fear that God,

Come to the land of which He is the eternal King
If He does not remove the transient kingdoms
But does it give the heavenly kingdoms?

Guided by the shine of a star

The Magi leave their distant land,
And they seek with their light the divine light

Until finding God and confessing Him.

The innocent Lamb of the heavens

Touch the waves of the sacred river,
And in its waters it cleanses us of our faults
That He is perfectly clean.

By a miracle of the highest power

The water in the vessels turns red
And, obedient to the sovereign command,
It becomes true wine.

Glorified be you, Jesus Christ,

That you revealed yourself to the Gentiles,
And that in union with the Father and the Paraclete
You exist everywhere and at all times
and you illuminate with your strong light.

Benedict XVI: The Faithfulness of God, Joy of the Believer

Commentary on the second part of Psalm 131

The second part of Psalm 131 has just resonated, a song that
evokes a pivotal event in the history of Israel: the relocation
from the ark of the Lord to the city of Jerusalem.

David was the architect of this transfer, witnessed in the first

part of the Psalm, which we have already meditated on. In fact, the king had

having found a dwelling for the ark of God, a sign of the
the presence of the Lord with His people (Cf. verses 3-5).

To that oath of the sovereign corresponds now the oath of the

Same God: "The Lord has sworn a promise to David that does not
"will retract" (verse 11). This solemn promise, ultimately, is the
the same that the prophet Nathan had made, in the name of God, to
same David; it affects the Davidic descendants, destined to reign from
stable manner (Cf. 2 Samuel 7, 8-16).

and in fact it is conditioned by an 'if': 'if you'
your children keep my covenant" (Psalm 131:12). To the promise and the gift
of God, which has nothing magical about it, must respond to faithful adherence.
and active participation of man in a dialogue that intertwines two freedoms, the
divine and the human.

Upon reaching this point, the Psalm transforms into a song that exalts
both the wonderful effects of the Lord's gift and the faithfulness of
Israel. The presence of God will indeed be experienced in the midst of
his people (Cf. verses 13-14): it will be like an inhabitant among the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, like a citizen living with others
citizens the vicissitudes of history, offering however the
power of his blessing.

A dwelling for the Lord

David had a noble heart. He had his flaws, no doubt, but

he redeemed the impulses of his passions with the nobility of his
reactions. I couldn't tolerate that the Ark of the Lord, symbol and
sacramento of his presence, will rest under a tent of

I will not enter under the roof of my house, I will not go up to the bed of my
rest, I will not give sleep to my eyes nor rest to my eyelids until
that he may find a place for the Lord, a dwelling for the Mighty One of.
Jacob.

Since that moment, Israel's obsession was to find a

dignified dwelling for the Ark that they had brought through the desert
with the liturgy of trumpets and the roar of battles.

"Arise, Lord, come to your dwelling, come with the ark of your power."

The Lord accepted the invitation of his people and chose Zion to be
out of your house: "This is my mansion forever; I will live here, because
I desire her.

the commandment is to love God above all things, a
the practical consequence will be to build him a more magnificent dwelling than
all the other dwellings. That is the faith that has given rise to the
the most beautiful manifestations of art and human imagination,
that with its zeal and effort has covered all the temples
corners of the inhabited sphere. The most majestic buildings of the
the earth is your temples, Lord, and all believers feel the
satisfaction that David felt when he cast his vote. The best dwelling
the world must be yours. A temple worthy of you for your stay
on the ground.1

The True Shepherd does not separate from the People of God

The world needs shepherds "who do not separate from the People of
God. Today more than ever, the mission of the priesthood requires
competence and preparation, but primarily, 'humanity'. In
extreme synthesis, words of the Pope in his speech to the seminarians
and trainers of the Regional Pontifical Seminary 'Pio XI' of the Marche.

In the context of the year dedicated to Saint Joseph, Pope Francis received

vocation inspired by the extraordinary figure of the father of Jesus

Be for the seminarians what Joseph was for Jesus

CARLOS G. VALLÉS I Look for your face Pray the Psalms Sal Terrae. Santander 1989, p.

First of all, he addressed the primary responsible parties of the
training of the young, asking them to be for the seminarians 'the

that of your words:

Let them learn the docility of their obedience; the industriousness of their
dedication; the generosity towards the poor, of the testimony of his
sobriety and availability; parenthood, thanks to its vibrant affection and
chaste.

He reminded them that to Saint Joseph, along with the title of father,
tradition assigns it the label "chaste", which is not an indication
merely affective, but rather the synthesis of an attitude that expresses the
opposite of possession.

Chastity is the "freedom from possession" in all areas of

life. Only when a love is chaste, is it truly love. The

Learn from the young Jesus

To the seminarians, above all, he made it clear that the Church asks that
follow the example of Jesus, who allowed himself to be educated docilely by Joseph,
with all the difficulties that the path of growth entails:
the big questions of life, the assumption of responsibilities and
the making of one's own decisions: He truly learned–
Francisco emphasized. He did not 'pretend to learn,' because, although he was God,
"he was a true man," who went through all the stages of the
growth of a man.

Perhaps we have not reflected enough on the young Jesus,

committed to discerning his own vocation, to listening and trusting himself
in Mary and Joseph, in dialoguing with the Father to understand his
mission.

The world, thirsty for priests skilled in humanity

Let the Seminar "be", said Francisco, like the house of Nazareth,
where the Son of God learned humanity from his parents and the
closeness.
Don't settle for being skilled at using social media and
the media to communicate. Just transformed
through the Word of God they will be able to communicate words of life.

He also pointed out that the world is "thirsty" for priests.

experienced sin and failure, may they be experts in
humanity, and be willing to share the joys and the
works of the brothers, marked by the cry of the one who suffers.

RITUAL OF THE DELIVERY OF THE WORD

Next, the Word of God will be delivered to you.

Dear admitted seminarians, there was a young man like you who
his name was Samuel. He did not know that God was speaking. But a priest who
he took care of him and taught him: "when God calls you, say: Speak, Lord,
that your servant listens to you.” So also you, from your most
tender vocation to place yourselves before the Word of God in prayer and

to grow in wisdom and grace (cf. Lk 2:52), for Blessed is he who
