Task 3 1 Math 2080
Task 3 1 Math 2080
In this task you will be presented with a series of exercises where you will apply the properties of the
functions to solve problems and you will be able to:
• to diagram a set of data with an exponential or logarithmic function;
• solve exponential and logarithmic equations, and
• calculate compound interest and the effective rate.
Note: In the event that the result is decimal, you will round it to two decimal places.

Assignment/Task 3.1: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions (exercise solutions)
(Value: 30 points)
Note: In the scatter plot, the X-axis represents time in days and the Y-axis represents the count.
of cells. Each point on the graph corresponds to a pair of values (time X, cell count Y) of
the data table. After plotting these points on the graph, you could connect them with smooth lines
to obtain a smoother visualization of how the cell count changes over time. This will you
will allow us to clearly see the trend of increasing cancer cell counts over time and
how it approaches the critical value of 60,000.
4. Let’s assume that $2,000 is deposited in a savings and loan account that pays 2%
semianual compound interest. Use compound interest to calculate the following:
a. How much money will the interest reach in 5 years? (4 points)
b. How much will be saved in total after 15 years? (4 points)
$2000
R/K: 2% / 2 = 1
n: 2 (5 years) = 10

5. Celene invests $3,500 in a bank at an annual interest rate of 5.9%, compounded quarterly. She uses
the compound interest to determine how much you will have saved at the end of 10 years. (5 points)

R/K: 5.9% / 4 = 0.015
n: 4 (10 years) = 40
