PANDAS
Pandas are mammals. They live in some small areas of China. They
usually live in high mountainous areas. The Chinese name for
panda is “daxiongmao” (large bear-cat). Pandas can live more than
30 years in captivity.
They are not social animals, they are solitary and shy. An adult
panda is about 1,5 metres tall and they can weigh between 75 and
130 kilograms. Males are usually heavier than females. Pandas
have a black and white coat. Also, they have black around their
eyes.
They always eat bamboo and leaves. Bamboo is their favourite food.
Sometimes, they can eat other vegetables, small animals or fish,
too. Pandas eat very fast and a lot. They can eat more than 38
kilograms of bamboo a day. They can climb high trees.
There are probably only about 1.000 wild pandas in the world and
about 127 in captivity. It is an endangered species, they are
protected because they are in danger of disappearing. Pandas are
beautiful animals !
