Assignment 1: IDEO Website Reflection

1) What did you learn searching the IDEO website?

While exploring the IDEO website, I learned that design thinking is much more than just a
method—it's a mindset centered around solving real-world problems by focusing on people’s
needs. It blends what is desirable for users, feasible with current technology, and viable from a
business perspective. IDEO emphasizes empathy, creativity, and iteration as essential parts of
this process. I also discovered that design thinking encourages open-mindedness,
experimentation, and failing early to learn faster. The concept of “creative confidence” stood out
to me as it reinforces that everyone has the ability to be creative and solve problems.

2) How is what you learned important or significant for you?

This learning is significant because it reshapes how I approach problem-solving. Instead of

jumping straight to solutions, I now understand the value of deeply understanding the people
involved and defining the real problem before designing a solution. As someone interested in
tech and innovation, this approach helps me connect technology with real human needs. It also
showed me that creativity isn’t limited to art—it’s about thinking differently, and that’s
empowering. Knowing that anyone, regardless of their background, can apply this mindset
makes it personally relevant and motivating.

3) How can you use this knowledge in your future?

In the future, I plan to use design thinking in various academic and professional projects—
especially in software development, UX design, and business strategy. For example, during
hackathons or internships, I can apply this mindset to focus on users first, prototype quickly, and
iterate based on feedback. It also helps me become a better team member by encouraging
collaboration and open communication. I believe this approach will help me create solutions that
are not only technically sound but also meaningful and impactful to the end users.
