BASIC STEPS IN USING SCIENTIFIC CALCULATOR
Exponents
These are the steps in solving exponents using a scientific calculator.
Step 1: Enter the number that you want to find the exponents
Step 2: Press the x 2 key
Step 3: Press equals and you can get the answer.
a. Ex: 52
Just enter 5 and then the x 2 button, press equals and it will give the answer which is 25.
But if the exponent is not squared, you can use this step.
Step 1: Enter the number that you want to find the exponents
Step 2: Press the ˄ key
Step 3: Enter the number of exponents
Step 4: Press equals and you can get the answer
a. Ex: 29
Just enter the number 2, and then press the ˄ key and enter the exponent which is the
number 9, press equals and you can get the answer which is 512.
Square root
To solve the square root in scientific calculator, we would simply do this step.
Step 1: Press the 2 nd key
Step 2: Press the x 2 key
Step 3: Enter the number that you are solving
Step 4: Press equals and you can get the answer
a. Ex: √ 81
Just press the 2 nd key and then press the x 2 key, after that enter the number 81 and press
equals to get the answer which is 9.
Logarithms
Using a scientific calculator, to find the natural log (LN) of a number, we would simply do this step.
Step 1: Press the LN key
Step 2: Enter the number that you want to find the natural log of
Step 3: Press equals and you can get the natural log (LN) of a number
a. Ex: ln 100
Enter LN of 100 then press equals and it will give you the answer of LN100 which is
4.60517.
To find the log that has a base of 10 (log 10 ), we would simply do this steps.
Step 1: Press the log key
Step 2: Enter the number that you want to find the log of
Step 3: Press equals and you can get the log 10 of a number
a. Ex: log 10 100
Enter log of 100 then press equals and it will give you the answer of log 10 100 which is 2.
But if we wanted to find a log that is not a base of 10, these are the steps that we should follow.
Step 1: Press the log key and enter the number that you want to find the log
Step 2: Divide it by its log base
Step 3: Press the log key and enter the log base
Step 4: Press equals and you can get the answer
a. Ex: log 2 100
Enter log of 100 then divide it by log of 2, press equals and it will give you the answer of
log 2 100 which is 6.643856
