File compression is used to decrease the size of a file to make it easier and quicker to send.

To
compress a file a file compression software is required, an example of this is WinZip. After
downloading and installing a file compression software, right clicking on the file that is wanting to be
compressed with bring up options for the file.

In the option menu, the “WinZip” option is selected then the “replace files with Zipped files” is
selected.

After this is selected it will compress the selected files into a zip format which can then be
submitted.

Reasons that file compression is used is:

 Smaller file size takes up less space.


 Can be submitted faster
 Multiple files can be zipped into one folder to offer easier use
