10-Day IELTS Academic Writing Study

Plan
🎯 Goal: Band 7+ in Writing

📘 Focus: Task 1 (Visual Reports) + Task 2 (Essay Writing)

🕒 Time: 1.5–2 hours/day

✅ Materials: Free websites (IELTS Liz, IELTS Simon, IELTS.org)

Day 1: Introduction to IELTS Writing


• Understand Writing Task 1 and Task 2 formats
• Read official Band Descriptors (on ielts.org)
• Watch intro videos on both tasks (IELTS Liz or IELTS Advantage)
• Write 1 sample for each task (just to self-assess)

Day 2: Task 1 – Bar Chart + Line Graph


• Learn structure: Introduction → Overview → Body
• Practice using trend vocabulary (e.g., rise, fall, remain stable)
• Write 1 bar chart + 1 line graph (20 minutes each)

Day 3: Task 1 – Pie Chart + Table


• Focus on comparisons and percentages
• Use connectors: “In contrast,” “Similarly,” “Whereas”
• Write 1 pie chart + 1 table

Day 4: Task 1 – Process Diagram + Map


• Use sequencing words: “First,” “Then,” “Finally”
• Use passive voice for process tasks
• Write 1 process diagram + 1 map

Day 5: Task 1 Review + Mock


• Review vocabulary, grammar, structure for all visuals
• Write a full Task 1 (any type) in 20 minutes
• Self-check using Band Descriptors

Day 6: Task 2 – Opinion Essay

• Focus on clear thesis and topic sentences
• Write 1 essay (250+ words, 40 minutes)
Day 7: Task 2 – Discussion Essay
• Practice showing both sides, then giving your opinion
• Use linking phrases: “On one hand,” “However,” “In conclusion”
• Write 1 discussion essay (40 minutes)

Day 8: Task 2 – Problem/Solution + Advantage/Disadvantage


• Practice brainstorming for each type
• Write 1 essay of each type (2 essays, or choose your weaker one)
• Focus on examples and clear explanations

Day 9: Full Writing Test Simulation


• Complete 1 Task 1 + 1 Task 2 under exam conditions (60 minutes total)
• Review your writing carefully
• Highlight grammar issues and awkward phrasing

Day 10: Final Review + Strategy


• Review common errors, useful phrases, and your weak areas
• Paraphrase practice: Rewrite essay introductions
• Write a final full test or your weakest task again
