Question 2

Printer paper is supplied in three sizes, A, B and C. The selling price is P15 for one box of printer paper A, P12
for one box of printer paper B, P10 for one box of printer paper C.

a) Express the selling price of one box of each size paper as a column matrix P.

b) In a year the number of boxes of size A paper sold each quarter is 500, 200, 600, and 400. The number
of boxes of size B paper sold each quarter is 300, 250, 200, and 125. The number of boxes of size C
paper sold each quarter is 200, 175, 300, and 100.

Express the yearly sales as a 4 x 3 matrix, N.

c) If S = N * P, find the matrix S.

d) What does the matrix S represent?

Question 3
a) On Graph Paper using a scale of 1 cm = 1 unit on both axes:
i. Plot the point (2,1). Label this point as P. [1]

ii. Draw the displacement vectors:

Label the points Q, R and S. Join the point P with a straight line and label the quadrilateral as shape A. [5]

B = T1 * A and C = T2 * B calculate matrix B and matrix C. [4]

d) Plot, draw and label shapes B and C on the Same Graph paper as shape A. [6]

f) Write down the 2 x 2 matrix that moves shape A to shape C [2]

iii. Plot the point (-5,-1), Q(-2,0) and R (-3,2) on graph paper
iv. Using straight lines, join P to Q, Q to R and R to P. Label this as shape A.
v. Write down the matrix representation of shape A.
