Item 1
Opamba and other dairy farmers in wakiso district are happy with the
profits they make yearly.
They sell their in the city daily and keep their money collections after sale in
their homes.
Individual farmers rent rooms expensively per month and the electricity bills
per individual are also high.
The milk sales have drastically declined due to a number of complaints
raised by customers.
These farmers transport their milk in jerricanes while carrying them on their
heads to their operating individual rooms which are very hot.
The milk has a bad flavor and has hairs in it also.
The milk goes bad on boiling.
Opamba wanted to buy a milk cooling tank for his business but does not
have enough money.
Task;
Advise the farmers above on how they can benefit from the milk production
profitably.
Item 2
In Masaka district, farmers grow their maize for home consumption and
income. In a season, they harvest over 1200 bags in different hectares of
land. This motivated them to grow maize continuously on this land.
After harvesting, they burn the maize stalks and all other vegetation in
preparation for the next planting season.
However, this year, their harvest has dropped to less than 800 bags due to
a number of unknown reasons. One farmer visited his maize garden and
observed that the field was too dry and plants had stunted growth.
The maize plants had different colors on the leaves, some cobs and he
realized that the top soil had been washed away on the gentle slope down
to the valley.
Task.
Suggest to the farmers the different practices they can employ on their land
for better maize yields.
Item 3
Livestock production is one the lucrative enterprises in Uganda. Dr. Olga is
a dairy farmer who keeps four Fressian cows under stall feeding (zero
grazing). Her structure is always muddy and the skins of the animals have
standing hairs. She feeds her animals entirely on forage. Two of her cows
calved down a pair of male twin calves each. She is worried because male
animals eat a lot of feeds, takes time to mature and does not sell them
when they are still young. She has been advised t5o feed her animals on
balanced rations. She therefore wants to come out with her own mixed
feeds using the ingredients, she has bought but she does not know how to
mix them. She bought 20% crude proteinto use, maize bran containing
10% crude proteinand cotton seed cake containing 50% crude protein. She
wants to make a ration of 500 kgs
Task;
Guide Dr. Olga what to do to get high production from her farm.
Item 4
Almost 78.9% of Uganda’s population is engaged in agriculture activities
especially animal rearing, though about 43.2% of the population is involved
in subsistence agriculture. The farmers rear traditional breeds which
mature slowly and give low yields of milk and meat.
They practice traditional grazing systems in poorly managed pastures and
in-breeding is common.
Farmers move with their animals looking for pasture and quality water.
All these have resulted into poor yields and low GDP to the country. The
government has therefore come up with programmes like Parish
Development Model (PDM) to support these farmers to boost animal’s
production.
Task;
Make a clear briefing to the farmers on how they can solve the above
challenges.

Sandra’s father picked interest in growing beans after watching harvest
money Expo on one of the television channels.
However, it was amidst planting season, so he decides to just slash his
garden area immediately started planting using a hoe with a blunt blade.
He ordered for the planting materials from one of the leading agricultural
produce supplier in the city.
When he received the seeds, they tiny, wrinkled and had holes but he was
bothered.
The bean seeds were mixed with other seeds from wild plants that
germinated before the beans.
A few bean seeds germinated and he to buy more other seeds for planting.
She used a non-selective herbicide to remove unwanted plants. She had
no harvests that season.
Task;
Give advice to Sandra’s fatheron what he should do next season of
planting beans.
Item6
Busega horticulture co-operative farmers decided to vegetables. They had
arguments among themselves on the procedures they should follow when
growing vegetables.
Some members advised that they plant seeds directly into the soil. Others
said sterilizing the soil was a waste of time while other opted to use
herbicides in clearing the area to save time. While other members also
suggested that they should buy ripe tomatoes, squeeze out the seeds and
then plant.
Later on, they agreed that they should buy seeds and plant directly in the
main garden. A few seeds germinated but they were slender with mottled
leaves and weak stems.
Task;
Advise they farmers on the basic principles they would follow to produce
vegetables.
Item 7
Farmers in Mubende district are good at growing annual crops in 2010 they
developed an association called Mubende Farmers group so that they can
easily acquire land and market for their produces. In 2020 they made a lot
of profits from their ground nut sales and they bought 50 acres of land
where they can- do large-scale production. They realized that the land they
bought was not good enough for crop production and for better yields and
the land they bought was steep sloping.
Task.
a. Advice the Mubende farmers group on how they can improve on the
productivity of their land for crop production.
b. How can they control the effect which may be brought up by heavy
rains.

Students of Bukandra S.S visited madam Nabatanzi’s farm in Mpingi
district. This lady owns 10 hectares of land on which she practices
floriculture, Apiculture, Agriculture, livestock rearing and banana plantation
farming. The students appreciated how the farm land was organized. She
told them, all agronomics practices which are done on her farm organic and
uses a symbiotic model of farming. I.e., dung from livestock is used in
garden and pasture feed to livestock. Students observedthat materialsfrom
the kitchen and dung used were well decomposed.
Task
a. How do you think madam Nabatanzi’s makes the kitchen material
ready for banana plantation use.
b. Why do you think she is using organic materials on her farm?
Item 9
You are newly appointed agricultural Extension worker in Bellisa-sub
County. You visited Mr. Abigaba, POULTRY FARM. Mr. Abigaba has over
8000-layer birds in a place that can accommodate only 600 birds. These
birds have all kinds of bad behaviors which stress him. He turned his
grandmother’s 6 bed roomed house he had inherited into a poultry house
but the place seem not conducive for birds and Mr. Abigaba is planning to
construct a modern poultry structure though he has no idea of how it looks
like.
Task
a. Make a write up advising Mr. Abigaba the kind of structures that
should be constructed for his laying birds.
b. How can he manage those birds in order to avoid bad habits and
produce more eggs for sale.
Item 10
Farmers in Nyamitanya village started up a commercial market and divided
it into different sections. Behind a market an abattoir was constructed.
When the health official inspected the place, they realized that the place
was in poor hygiene conations. The place had no waste disposal and blood
was flowing around. The men that slaughter the animal are putting on dirty
overall stained with blood, others were coughing with long finger nails
which were dirty, the inspector realized that the veterinarydoctors were
corrupt and was not doing his role. He was passing out the meat without
checking the condition putting the lives of the consumers in danger. The
inspector closed the market and the abattoir.
Task
a. You are required to make a write-up to the people of Nyamitanya
village advising them on what they should do to ensure that market
and the abattoir are re-opened.
b. What qualities should a good meat have for consumption?
Item 11
Mr. Okwir Godfrey a farmer in Busia district has been growing vegetables
for the last 10 years. However, his yields per hectare have remained very
low compared to the other people in the same district. Okwir planted the
cabbage seed directly into the main garden without following the direct
procedure of growing them. When Opio visited his garden told him to follow
the better management skill in order to produce better quality product for
the consumers and compete for better with other producers.
Task
Advise Mr. Okwir on how he can produce high yields from his cabbage
garden for the consumers.
Item 12
People in Kabala, Kisoro and Fort portal they grow root tubers as one of
their major cash crops. They produced the best Irish potatoes which are
used in making of chips in different restaurants. Mr. Odeke visited one of
his friends in Kisoro and admi9red the quality of Irish potatoes. His friends
gave him some of that he can feed his family, however Mr. Odeke just
planted them. On germination most of the potatoes did not germinate
because they were

Item 13
Mr. Mwiru is a prominent dairy farmer who produces milk on a large
scale. He used to sale his milk to the customers in the community
and some to the diary people in the nearby towns. However, at times
the milk could reach the diary when it had gone bad, and could fetch
him very little money since one liter was sold at 1,000/=to customers
and 800/=to the diary people. One-time Mr. Mwiru attempted to make
ghee from the milk but hiss attempt failed.
Task:
As an expert in handling animal products, help Mr. Mwiru to
overcome his challenges.
Item 14
When people in your community observed that natural charcoal
presence is diminishing and there prices are increasing, they stated
finding other sources of fuel they could use. They discovered that
they can use their forms of fuel like briquettes which is got from the
agricultural wastes around them than resorting to use of firewood.
The youth in your community observed that there were a lot of
agricultural wastes in the community like banana peelings, coffee
husks, maize husks wood shavings bagasse,cowdung and other non-
wood materials which were polluting the environment and could be
put by making briquettes, most of the youth are ignorant about
briquette making and its advantages over the traditional firewood.
The all suggest you give them enough information about briquette
making.

Write a message you will deliver to the youths about the advantages
of using briquettes for cooking over the traditional firewood and how
good briquettes should be?
Item 15
Cereal growing is gaining more popularity in many parts of the country.
This is so good to our country Uganda and her neighbors. However due to
many reasons soil is becoming unproductive and a lot has to be done if
farmers are to benefit from cereal growing and many farmers are ignorant
about the project.
Task
Write a sensitization to message to Opio who just wants to start up the
project.
