provision for practical for block-wise attendance of the student. Attendance requirements are 75%
in theory and 80% in practical for eligibility to appear for the University examinations in that

8. Self-Directed Learning(SDL)Session-1
Date: 10-4-2024 Time:8—9am

Venue: Demo rooms—I, II, III, IV & Practical Laboratory=-=+/5

42
Topic: Court procedures

Faculty Facilitor: Dr M.Malleswari

Learning Objectives: Behavior of doctor to be in the witness box

Key task performed: Procedure of recording evidence

Reflections: Should remain as a man of science has no victim to avenge, no

guilty person to convict and no innocent person to save; for this a
doctor should have wide range of exact knowledge, power of
observation and drawing (opinion) conclusion from pros and cons.

Feedback: When two summons are received from different courts, first
priority has to be given to criminal courts.

Score Faculty Sign.

8.Self-Directed Learning (SDL) Session-2

Date: 12-4-2024 Time:9—10am

43
Venue: Demo rooms—I, II, III, IV

Topic: Procedure of documentation of informed consent

Faculty Facilitor: Dr M.Malleswari

Learning Objectives: Doctrine of informed consent and its

components
Key task performed: Proper orderly documentation along with signature of the
patient or relative should be obtained in the presence of a
disinterested third party like nurse; finally it should be
countersigned by the physician in charge of the patient.

Reflections: The person should be sane, major and not under the
influence of intoxicating drugs

Feedback: Consent is a must in all medicolegal situations and in all

procedures (whether therapeutic or investigatory) which
involves risk to life

Score Faculty Sign.

8.Self-Directed Learning (SDL) Session-3

44
Date: 15-4-2024 Time:9—10am

and their family, fellow physicians, paramedical personnel.

Reflections: 1. Never guarantee 100% cure, even with proper

investigations

2. Counsel family members of a patient with empathy is

essential

Feedback: Proper, accurate & legible records to be maintained.

Key task performed: Careful handling of specimens during autopsy to send to

chemical analysis, histo-pathological examination,
laboratory analysis of firearms, identification of unknown
bodies through analysis of DNA and fingerprints should be
done to maintain chain of custody.
Reflections: Medico legal autopsy should be done only after receiving
requisition from police officer or magistrate

Feedback: Thorough postmortem examination which includes external,

internal examination as well as sending viscera for chemical
analysis in poisoning cases

Score Faculty Sign.

Topic: Differentiation of Homicidal cut-throat injuries with

suicidal cut-throat injuries
Faculty Facilitor: Dr M.Malleswari

Learning Objectives: Presence of hesitation cuts or

not

Key task performed: Situation/ accessibility over front of

neck

Reflections: Homicidal cut-throat injuries are usually below

the thyroid cartilage, single, transverse, edges
are sharp and clean cut and bevelling may be
seen, deeper. Carotid arteries and jugular veins
are likely to be cut.

Feedback: Absence of hesitation cuts and presence of other

wounds over other areas of body associated with
tears of clothes corresponding to injuries in the
body, may be along with defence wounds and
disturbance of scene of offence

jars, after labeling the deceased name along with seal and
signature of autopsy doctor
Key task performed: Preservative (Saturated solution of sodium chloride) in one
bottle—to be added in all the viscera to prevent putrefaction

Reflections: Careful handling of specimens during

autopsy to send to chemical analysis should be
done by preventing contamination to maintain
chain of custody

Feedback: By knowing in which organ it was present gives

assessment whether it

poisoning
Faculty Facilitor: Dr M.Malleswari

Learning Objectives: To ensure complete stomach wash

Key task performed: While passing the stomach wash tube check cough reflex and
sudden aphonia.

Reflections: If any obstruction is met while passing the stomach wash tube
with sudden aphonia and cough , then no force should be used
to push it down, but the tube should be withdrawn for some
distance and again reintroduced, until it passes on smoothly to
reach the mark on the tube.
