Class 12 Physics Notes - CBSE (2025-26)

Chapter 1: Electric Charges and Fields

This chapter introduces the basic concept of electric charges, Coulomb's Law, electric field and field lines,

electric dipole, and Gauss's Law.

Key Formulas:

- Coulomb's Law: F = k * |q1*q2| / r²

- Electric Field: E = F/q = kQ/r²

- Dipole Moment: p = q × 2a

Gauss's Law:

?E?dA = q_enclosed / ??

Applications of Gauss?s Law:

- Field due to infinite line charge: E = ? / (2???r)

- Field due to uniformly charged sphere:

Outside: E = kQ/r²,

Inside: E = kQr/R³

Chapter 2: Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance

This chapter deals with electrostatic potential, potential energy, equipotential surfaces, capacitors, and

capacitance.

Important Concepts:

- V = kQ/r (potential due to point charge)

- C = Q/V (capacitance)

- Energy stored in capacitor: U = ½CV²

- Capacitance of parallel plate capacitor: C = ??A/d
