B. Establishing 1. Lesson Purpose DAY
Lesson Purpose 1
Provide an overview of the expected outcomes of the lesson. The key objective is
to understand the concept of estimating the sum of two 5-digit numbers by
rounding the addends to the largest place value
DAY 2
Present the objective of the lesson. The pupils are expected to estimate the sum
of two 6-digit numbers by rounding the addends to the largest place value.
DAY 3
Explain that the key objective of the lesson is to learn how to estimate the
difference of two 5-digit numbers by rounding the number to the largest place value.
DAY 4
A. Give an overview of the lesson. Explain to the learners that the process of
estimating the difference two 6-digit numbers is the same as the process of
estimating 5-digit numbers.

B. State the objective of the lesson. The learner is expected to estimate the sum
and difference of two 5- to 6-digit numbers by rounding the numbers to the
largest place value.

5. ARLEGST LAPCE AVLUE 5. Largest Place Value
Clue: It is the digit farthest to the left in a number.
DAY 2
Let the learners recall the keywords learned in the previous lesson and discuss
its importance to the lesson. The only difference from yesterday’s lesson is the
numbers of digits to be estimated.
5
DAY 3
A. Recall the keywords from previous lessons. The only difference for the day’s
lesson is the operation to used which is subtraction. Present the terms
minuend, subtrahend, difference estimate and round to the class. Ask them
what they know about these terms.
• Minuend – It is the number from which another number is being subtracted.
• Subtrahend – It is the number that is being subtracted from the minuend.
• Difference – It is the result of subtracting the subtrahend from the
minuend. DAY 4
To facilitate the lesson language practice, recall the keywords learned from
yesterday. This time, it will focus on estimating the difference of 6-digit numbers
by rounding to the largest place value.

B. Let the learners give the steps in estimating the sum or difference of 5 to 6-digit
numbers. Steps to follow in estimating the sum and difference of numbers.
1. Round the numbers to the nearest large place value.
2. Add or subtract the rounded numbers.
