The PV-tank is equipped with a power unit with control system. There are many different kinds of
power units depending on the pumping condition.

Non-return flaps
Inlet and outlet of the PV-tank is equipped with counter-flaps, these have to fit very tightly to the
pipe
By prolonged use the flap may begin to shut less tightly to the pipe, it is possible to buy new flaps
for the PV-tank.
Determination of size and type, see section "Individual Specification"
When transporting live fish it’s very important, that the water level when filling don’t reach the
non-return valve, otherwise the fish can be damaged.
Connection between tank and power unit
It is recommended to mount a flexible joint to absorb the shock impacts between the power unit and
the tank.
For this purpose a strong hose or a proper compensator might be used.
The tank connection is equipped with a floating ball to prevent the fish to work its way into the
pump by overfilling.
Determination of size:

Bolt assemblies
Please note, that all bolt assemblies shall be tightened periodically.
Bolt joints are exposed to vibrations from the PV system during operation and might loosen.
It is recommended to check the bolt assemblies once a month during normal operation.

Tank sensors, Maintenance and spare parts
Fork sensors
The fork sensor operates by the same principle as a tuning fork.
The symmetrical fork sensor vibrates at its resonant frequency which changes when the liquid
covers the forks. The change in frequency is detected by the electronics and the output signal
changes.
The fork sensor is equipped with two diodes located at the top of the sensor at the four-pole
connector. The green diode indicates that the sensor is applied voltage, and the yellow diode
indicates the output signal.
The fork sensor requires no real maintenance. However, the fork sensors must be cleaned on a
regular basis to remove scraps of fish, fish scales and the like.
It is possible to check the fork sensors. This can be achieved by gripping forks and thereby change
the oscillation, by which a signal can be read at the sensor and at the flow diagram of the control
cabinet. Furthermore, a strong magnet might affect the sensor to provide signal, the magnet is
placed on the body of the sensor.

Flowmeter with display
The placement of the Flowmeter is shown in the section ”Hydraulic water supply”
After some time of operating the Flowmeter may become inaccurate. This is due to a coating
building up inside the tube.
This coating is removed with a bottle brush and a mild detergent. How often this cleaning must be
done depends of the media that is pumped through.
For easier access to dismount and clean the Flowmeter this is mounted with unions.
Warning!
To avoid twisting the sensor during dismounting and mounting it is important only to tighten on the
two unions (Half-part of union and its counterpart)
It is important that the supply plug is tightened to be waterproof, but it is very important that the
supply plug does not rotate in the socket.

4-way valve, maintenance and spare parts
Maintenance
The 4-way valve must be greased at every 10 hours of operation. The 4-way valve should be
lubricated with grease through the 2 grease nipples on the top side and underside while the valve is
in motion to distribute the fat in the valve.
Suggested quantity: 3-4 shots in each nipple with grease type: SHELL Calithia EP2, Shell Alvania
EP2 or similar grease.
If the system has not been used for a longer period, the valve must be lubricated before starting.
By lack of lubrication and prolonged use, the valve might start to leak around the plug It is possible
to buy new seals for the plug.

Hydraulic pump station
The PV-system is equipped with a hydraulic pumping station, which will operate the hydraulic
water valve, the 4-way valve and the hydraulic bypass valve.
When the control distributes voltage to the coil of the solenoid valve and this pulls, the cylinder will
change position until its outer position is reached. The pressure might in some cases drop, but then
immediately increase to the pre-set working pressure. To minimize pressure drop during operation,
the system is equipped with a hydraulic accumulator.
Standard operating pressure is 30 Bar. The hydraulic pressure can be read on the manometer.

Requirements for use / maintenance of hydraulic system:
1. Oil Supplier warnings and references must be followed.
2. By replacement of hydraulic oil, where the facility must be vented, there may be oil
spills and spraying oil.
3. If leaking at the site is found; stop this immediately and rectify the error.
4. By separating the plant there might, even if this is stopped, occur static pressure from
the accumulator, compressed oil and so on. This may lead to sudden spraying of
hydraulic oil.
5. Note that the oil after running the system may be at least 70 degrees Celsius. This
may cause danger of scalding by separation or bleed.
6. Always wear eye protection and oil-protecting gloves.
7. Iras recommend that before start up the plant, to tighten all hydraulic hoses on the
small hydraulic power station, just in case they have been shaken loose during
transport.

Hydraulic DN100 shutoff valve
(Used only at systems where several power units work together)
The Shut-off valve functions fully automatically and opens automatically when the power unit
starts. The Shut-off valve ensures that no false air is supplied by the pump not operating.
The Shut-off valve is located on the tank connection at the power unit.

Knife valve for in and outlet of the PV-tank
In- and outlet of the PV-tank can be equipped with a knife valve, which can be used as non-return
valve. (See section: Inlet Knife Valve and outlet Knife Valve)
For longer time of use the knife valve can be leaky and there is possible to adjust or change the
sealing.

Guidance about the pneumatic operated valve:
1. Pneumatic valve must not be repaired or removed during plant operation or when
there is pressure on the system.
2. For all repair / maintenance of the plant, the pneumatic pressure must be disconnected
and locked.
