Quantitative Aptitude Formula Sheet

1. Profit & Loss

Profit = Selling Price (SP) - Cost Price (CP)

Loss = Cost Price (CP) - Selling Price (SP)

Profit % = (Profit / CP) × 100

Loss % = (Loss / CP) × 100

SP = CP × (100 + Profit%) / 100

SP = CP × (100 - Loss%) / 100

CP = SP × 100 / (100 + Profit%)

CP = SP × 100 / (100 - Loss%)

2. Series Completion

Patterns: Arithmetic (a, a+d, a+2d...), Geometric (a, ar, ar²...), Squares (1², 2²...), Cubes (1³, 2³...)

Identify pattern through difference, ratio, or alternation.

3. Simple & Compound Interest

Simple Interest: SI = (P × R × T) / 100, Amount = P + SI

Compound Interest: CI = P × [(1 + R/100)^T - 1], Amount = P × (1 + R/100)^T

4. Fractions

Addition/Subtraction: Make denominators same.

Multiplication: Multiply numerators & denominators.

Division: Multiply by reciprocal.

Compare by converting to decimal or using LCM.

5. LCM and HCF

Quantitative Aptitude Formula Sheet

LCM × HCF = Product of the two numbers

LCM: Least number divisible by all

HCF: Greatest number dividing all

6. Ratios

a : b = a/b

If a : b = m : n and b : c = p : q, then a : b : c = m : n : (n×p)/m

Value = (Sum of ratios / total) × Total value

7. Age Problems

Use algebra. Present age = x.

Future age = Present + years, Past age = Present - years

Use equations from given conditions.

8. Average

Average = (Sum of terms) / (Number of terms)

Sum = Average × Number of items

New Average = (Old Total ± Change) / New Number

9. Time & Work

Work = Rate × Time

If A does work in x days, then 1 day work = 1/x

Combined work: 1/x + 1/y = (x + y)/xy

Time together = xy / (x + y)

10. Time & Distance

Speed = Distance / Time, Distance = Speed × Time, Time = Distance / Speed

1 km/hr = (5/18) m/sec, 1 m/sec = (18/5) km/hr

11. Mensuration

Rectangle: Area = l × b, Square: Area = a²

Triangle: Area = ½ × b × h, Circle: Area = pir², Circumference = 2pir

Cube: Volume = a³, Surface Area = 6a²

Cuboid: Volume = l × b × h

Cylinder: Volume = pir²h, Surface Area = 2pir(h + r)

Cone: Volume = (1/3)pir²h, Surface Area = pir(l + r)

Sphere: Volume = (4/3)pir³, Surface Area = 4pir²

12. Percentage

Percentage = (Value / Total) × 100

Increase = Original × (1 + % / 100)

Decrease = Original × (1 - % / 100)

% Change = [(New - Old)/Old] × 100

13. Price & Expenditure

Expenditure = Price × Quantity

If price increases, quantity decreases:

New quantity = (Original quantity × Original price) / New price

14. Volume
Quantitative Aptitude Formula Sheet

Volume = Area of base × Height

1 m³ = 1000 litres, 1 litre = 1000 cm³

15. Factoring

a² - b² = (a - b)(a + b)

(a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²

(a - b)² = a² - 2ab + b²

x² + (a + b)x + ab = (x + a)(x + b)

Quadratic formula: x = [-b ± sqrt(b² - 4ac)] / 2a
