Expt LOD

The document outlines a practical procedure for determining moisture content and loss on drying of calcium carbonate using a hot air oven set at 70°C. It includes steps for weighing the petri dish with and without the sample, creating a slurry, and recording weight changes during drying. The results will provide the percentage of moisture content and the time taken for complete drying.

BP308P PHARMACEUTICAL ENGINEERING PRACTICAL

Aim: To determine moisture content and loss on drying

Procedure:
1. Set oven at 70⁰ C
2. Take the weight of empty petri dish and note down its weight as W1.
3. Take 10g of calcium carbonate in petri dish and note down its weight as W2.
4. Add 10ml water and make slurry and determine the weight of petri-dish as W3
5. Keep the petri dish in hot air oven at 70⁰ C for continuous drying and determine the weight
of sample every 15 mins.
6. Stop drying when the weight of Petri dish is constant.
7. Calculate the moisture content and loss drying.

Observation Table:
1) Weight of empty petri-dish=W1=_____________
2) Weight of petri-dish+sample=W2=_____________
3) Weight of petri-dish+sample+water= W3_________________

Formula:
1) Moisture Content= W3-W2 / W2-W1
2) % Moisture Content= W3-W2 / W2-W1*100

Result:
1) % Moisture Content of CaCO3 was ___________ % after complete drying
2) Complete drying of CaCO3 was attained in ___________ mins at 70 ℃
