Course: Navigating Airtable
This course is designed for learners that are brand new to Airtable and its home
screen, but who are familiar with the terms “Workspace”, “Base”, “Interface” and
“Page”, as well as “End user” and “Builder”. It is recommended that learners go
through the “Welcome to Airtable” course prior to starting this course.
In this course, we will explain how to navigate the home screen, how to organize
the home screen and how to navigate between interfaces, bases and pages.
If you are a builder, we also have a tutorial on basic workspace settings.

Lesson: Home Screen Navigation
Hello there!
In this video, we'll give you an introduction to the Airtable home screen and how to
navigate it. We'll look at the 'Home' versus 'All workspaces' sections, walk through how to
use the search field, 'Help' button, and the notifications overview.
And lastly, we'll show you how to access further settings for your user account.
Let's dive in.
So here we are, the Airtable home screen. This will look different to you depending on
how active you have been in Airtable and whether any apps have been shared with you.
You may see a message saying "Nothing has been shared with you", and you may or may
not see shortcuts at the top.
Regardless of what you can see, the navigation is the same. The home screen is divided
into two main sections: 'Home', which is usually the default, and 'All workspaces'.

This section will look different depending on whether you have created or been granted
access to workspaces.
Workspaces are most useful for builders who create and own workspaces. For end users
and builders who only work in a few interfaces or bases, the 'Home' section is the most
useful.
It allows you to star your most relevant interfaces, bases, and workspaces for quick
access.
You can always search for interfaces and bases in the search field, or anytime by clicking
command or control+K.
If you are a builder, the 'Help' button is very useful.
The Help Center has extensive documentation on all features, and the Community can be
an extremely valuable resource.
Our fantastic support team is also ready to help you through 'Message Support'.
You can also find keyboard shortcuts here.
Next to 'Help', you'll find your notifications with a shortcut to marking all as read.
You can set your notification preferences by clicking on your profile picture.
And toggle email and mobile notifications off or on.
You can also set language preferences here and access 'Trash', where you can recover
recently deleted bases and workspaces.
This is also where you'll find your account settings.
Depending on whether you log in with SSO or not, you'll be able to edit your email and
name here. You can also see your credits, recent activity, and access the settings for any
workspaces you own.
You can always return to the home screen by clicking on the Airtable logo in the upper left
hand corner.

Hopefully, this has given you a good basic understanding of how to navigate the home
screen. In the next lesson, we'll look at how to organize the home screen so that it works
best for you.
See you then.
Tutorial: How to Organize the Home Screen
In this tutorial, you will learn how to organize your home screen by doing it for a fictional
character, Bailey, who works in the IT department as an IT ticketing coordinator.
She has been added as an end user to three interfaces that allow her to coordinate tickets
and review reports.
But she's also playing around with Airtable as a builder in her own workspace and has
created an app for keeping track of the knowledge base, process best practices, and
employee training.
However, she always finds herself clicking around randomly in the home screen to find
what she's looking for. Let's look at what she sees.
When she logs into Airtable, she is shown the Home section and can see the 3 interfaces
shared with her, but not her own workspace and the app that she is building.
Let's click on the caret next to ‘Shared with you’ and pick ’Opened by you’.
Now we can see the base and one interface that Bailey has built. But let's say that Bailey
is only interested in the base. Click on the caret next to ‘Show all types’ and pick the
‘Show bases only’ option.
Now we just see the base. However, this only shows up because Bailey happened to have
opened it recently. Let's add it to starred by clicking the star.
Notice that the selection has changed to 'Starred' now. Click on the caret again and go
back to ‘Shared with you’.
Nothing shows up. This is because we have filtered the view to ‘Show bases only’. Let's fix
this by clicking the caret next to it and pick ‘Show interfaces only’.

Now you can see the interfaces shared with Bailey. Let's star the ‘Get support’ interface by
clicking on the star.
And star ‘IT ticket coordination’ as well; and ‘Reports’.
Now we just need to star the workspace. Click on the caret to open ‘All workspaces’. Star
‘My First Workspace’.
Collapse the workspaces again and expand ‘Home’ to see your starred items.
Now Bailey’s most important bases, interfaces and workspaces are starred and easy to
access.
Now you can go do the same for your own home screen.
Lesson: Navigating Interfaces and Bases
Hi there. In this quick lesson, we'll show you how to navigate from the home
screen to interfaces and pages as an end user, and to bases and interfaces as a
builder.
Let's dive in.
Let's start by opening one of the interfaces that Bailey is accessing as an end
user.
This is the 'Get support' interface and it opens up on the top page, which in this
case is a page that tells users how to use this app. On the left hand side, you can
see the two other pages, one for submitting tickets and one for tracking the status
of the tickets.
To return to the home screen, you can either click the caret next to the name at
the top and choose 'Back to home', or you can click on the interface icon.
Let's open another interface.

COURSE TRANSCRIPT
Bailey has access to two interfaces from the same app. So now she can see both
the 'IT ticket coordination' interface and all its pages, as well as the 'Reports'
interface in the left navigation.
Let's return to the home screen and go to the base that Bailey has created herself
as a builder. From a base, you can access the interfaces from the top navigation.
Bailey has built three interfaces, and she can access all of them in the left
navigation.
In order to edit them, she would have to click the caret next to the title and choose
'Edit pages'.
She only has this option available because she is an owner of the workspace that
this space lives in, and that gives her what is called Creator permissions to all the
bases and interfaces within her workspace.
To return to the base, she can click 'View data'. Any user with base access would
have this option available as well.
From the base, she can return to the home screen by clicking the base icon.
Note, if the base didn't have an icon, this would just be the Airtable logo.
Thank you for watching.
