Project overview
The Smart Water Tank Monitoring System is an Arduino-based
project designed to automate water management. It provides
real-time monitoring of water levels and temperature,
intelligently controls a water pump to prevent overflows or tanks
running dry, and offers both audible (buzzer) and visual (RGB
LED) alerts for different water level conditions. The system aims
to enhance convenience, conserve water, and provide better
awareness of water consumption for various applications, from
homes to industrial settings.
Introduction
Problem: Manual water tank monitoring is inefficient, can
lead to overflows or running dry.
Solution: An automated system for real-time water level and
temperature monitoring, with intelligent pump control and
alerts.
Project Goal: To create a reliable and efficient smart water
tank system using Arduino.
System Overview
What it is: An Arduino-based system that monitors water
levels and temperature, automatically manages a water
pump, and provides visual and audible alerts.
Key Functionality:
Real-time water level percentage display.
Water temperature monitoring.
Automatic pump control (on/off).
Audible alerts (buzzer).
Visual status indicators (RGB LED).
Hardware components
Arduino Board: The brain of the system (e.g., Arduino Uno).
Ultrasonic Sensor (HC-SR04): Measures water level
(distance).
LM35 Temperature Sensor: Measures water temperature.
16x2 LCD Display: Shows water level and temperature
readings.
Relay Module: Controls the DC water pump (turns it on/off).
DC Water Pump: Fills the tank.
Buzzer: Provides audible alerts.
RGB LED: Visual status indicator (Red, Green, Yellow).
Jumper Wires, Breadboard, Power Supply.

How It Works: Logic & Flow
Water Level Measurement:
Ultrasonic sensor sends sound waves.
Calculates distance to water surface.
Converts distance to water level percentage based on
tankHeight.
Temperature Measurement:
LM35 sensor provides analog voltage.
Arduino converts voltage to Celsius temperature.
Automatic Pump Control:
Pump ON: When water level is ≤ 20%.
Pump OFF: When water level is > 20%.
How It Works: Logic & Flow
Alert System (Buzzer):
Buzzer ON: When water level is ≤ 60% (early warning).
Buzzer OFF: When water level is > 60%.
Visual Indicators (RGB LED):
Green: Water level ≥ 80% (Full/High).
Yellow/Orange (Red + Green): Water level between 20% and
79% (Medium/Normal).
Red: Water level ≤ 19% (Low).
Benefits & Applications
Water Conservation: Prevents overflows and wastage.
Convenience: Eliminates manual checking and pump
operation.
Safety: Prevents pump dry-running (though not explicitly
coded, good to mention for a complete system).
Awareness: Real-time data helps users understand water
consumption.
Applications: Home water tanks, small-scale irrigation,
industrial fluid monitoring.
Future Enhancements
Cloud Integration: Send data to a web server for remote
monitoring via a smartphone app.
SMS/Email Alerts: Notify users directly about critical levels.
Flow Rate Sensor: Monitor water consumption more
accurately.
Multiple Tank Monitoring: Expand the system to manage
several tanks.
User Interface Improvements: Add buttons for manual pump
override, calibration.
Solar Power Integration: Make the system self-sustainable.
