Science 9 Worksheet 1 q1

The document is a learning activity for Enhanced Science 9 focusing on the collaboration between the respiratory and circulatory systems in the human body. It includes fill-in-the-blank and multiple-choice questions to assess understanding of how these systems function together to transport oxygen and remove carbon dioxide. Additionally, there are guide questions for students to elaborate on their understanding of the processes involved.

How the Respiratory and Circulatory Systems Work Together

The human body is made up of many systems that work together to keep us alive. Two of the most important systems
are the respiratory system and the circulatory system. The respiratory system helps us breathe in oxygen and get rid of
carbon dioxide. Its main parts include the nose, trachea, lungs, and diaphragm. The circulatory system moves blood
throughout the body. Its basic parts are the heart, blood vessels (arteries, veins, capillaries), and blood.
These two systems work closely together. When you breathe in, your lungs fill with oxygen. This oxygen passes into
your blood through tiny air sacs in your lungs called alveoli. The circulatory system then carries this oxygen-rich blood
to every part of your body. At the same time, the blood picks up carbon dioxide, a waste gas, from your cells and brings
it back to the lungs, where you breathe it out. This teamwork helps transport nutrients, gases, and other important
molecules to and from the body’s cells, keeping you healthy and energized.
Fill in the Blank
DIRECTIONS. Fill in the blank with the correct words.
1. The ______________________ system is responsible for moving blood throughout the body.
2. The tiny air sacs in the lungs where gas exchange happens are called ______________________.
3. The main organ of the respiratory system where oxygen enters the blood is the ______________________.
4. The ______________________ _ pumps blood to all parts of the body.
5. Oxygen moves from the lungs to the blood, and _______________________ moves from the blood to the
lungs.
Multiple Choice
DIRECTIONS. Choose the correct answer from the choices for each question.
1. What is the main function of the respiratory system?
A. To digest food
B. To breathe in oxygen and remove carbon dioxide
C. To control movement
D. To produce hormones
2. Which part of the circulatory system carries oxygen-rich blood away from the heart?
A. Veins
B. Arteries
C. Capillaries
D. Lungs
3. Where does the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide take place?
A. Stomach
B. Heart
C. Alveoli
D. Kidneys
4. How do the respiratory and circulatory systems work together?
A. They both help with digestion
B. They both remove waste from the body
C. The respiratory system supplies oxygen, and the circulatory system transports it
D. The circulatory system makes you breathe faster
5. Which molecule do body cells need to produce energy?
A. Carbon dioxide
B. Oxygen
C. Water
D. Sugar
Guide Questions
DIRECTIONS. Answer the following questions in complete sentences.
1. Describe what happens to oxygen after it enters the lungs.

2. Explain how the circulatory system helps remove waste from the body.

3. Why is it important for the respiratory and circulatory systems to work together?
