CREATE A CUSTOM TEXTURE FOR 3D OBJECT
OBJECTIVE:
To create a custom texture for 3D Object using Blender.
LIST THE TOOLS USED FOR MANIPULATION:
1. Grab/move
2. Scale
3. Rotate
4. Extrude
5. Insert
6. Loop cut
7. knife tool
8. Bevel
9. Merge
10. Mirror modifier
11. Subdivision surface modifier
GENERAL STEPS FOLLOWED TO CREATE A TEXTURE:
Step 1: Open Blender and import or create your 3D model.
Step 2: Switch to Object Mode and select your model.
Step 3: Apply "Shade Smooth" (Right-click → Shade Smooth) for better surface rendering.
Step 4: Switch to Edit Mode (Tab key).
Step 5: Select the entire model (A key).
Step 6: Open the UV Editing workspace (UV Editing tab on the top).
Step 7: Press U to open the unwrap menu:
Step 8: Choose "Smart UV Project" for automatic unwrapping.
Step 9: Or use "Unwrap" (manual) for better control.
Step 10: Adjust the UV map in the UV Editor to prevent stretching.
Step 11: Open the Shading workspace.
Step 12: Select your object and create a new material (+ New in Material Properties).
Step 13: Click on the dot in base color and Click Add → Image Texture.
Step 14: Click New to create a blank texture or Open to import an existing one.
Step 15: Change Viewport Shading Mode to Material Preview to see the applied texture.
PROCEDURE:

Step 1: Prepare Your 3D Object
1. Open Blender and either:
a. Import your 3D object (File > Import > [Choose your format])
b. Or use a default object (like a cube, sphere, etc.)
2. Go to Object Mode, select your object.
Step 2: UV Unwrap the Object
1. Switch to Edit Mode (Tab).
2. Press A to select all geometry.
3. Press U → Choose Smart UV Project (or another unwrap method that suits your
model).
Step 3: Create a Material
1. Go to the Shading workspace.
2. With your object selected, click New in the Material Properties tab.
3. Add a Base Colour Texture:
a. Add a Image Texture node (Shift + A > Texture > Image Texture)
b. Click New to create a blank texture (e.g. 2048x2048)
c. Name it something like My Custom Texture
Step 4: Texture Paint
1. Switch to the Texture Paint workspace.
2. Make sure your new image texture is selected in the image editor.
3. Paint directly onto the 3D object or the 2D UV map using the tools on the left
(brush, smear, fill, etc.).
4. Save your texture:
a. In the image editor: Image > Save As to export your painted image (e.g.
my_texture.png)
Step 5: Apply the Texture in Shading
1. Go back to Shading workspace.
2. Make sure the Image Texture node (with your painted texture) is connected to
the Base Colour of the Principled BSDF.
3. View it in Material Preview or Rendered mode.
