SYMBOLS
A
For symbols, the most common logics are
M
Symbols used in a coding decoding problems are always limited to 6-7-8 and there can be different logics we may encounter
I
based on types asked.
S
Here are few ways to identify them:
1. If the number of symbols used are only two( for eg. @ and % ), then possibility is that we are dealing with some even or odd in
E
the words.
T
check for number of vowels or Consonant as even or odd or the number of letters in the word as even or odd.
I
2. If symbols used are more then 2, then ideal way is to check the most repeated symbol and try finding the logic, which in most
cases are
N
i. The numbers of letters in words as 1,2,3,4,5,6...8,9,10.
I
River as 5, Climber as 7 etc.
F
ii. Sometimes some alphabets will repeat in words that can be assigned a particular symbol.
N
For eg. a. lime and crime has e in the end , so we can have code $ for e as the last letter.
I
b. Crime and Cloud , this is another example where C can be coded as some symbol like #. Keep an eye on these.
iii. Symbols are also used when Consonant or vowels are used in the starting. But in these cases, it is mostly seen that only two
symbols appears. Like if a word start with consonant , then % will be used and $ for vowel.
I know we can have more but atleast we must know these by heart

L
SYMBOLS
A
For Alphabets or letters appearing in code,
M
We see the following logics.
I
i. Letters in code = First or Last or Second from Left or Second Last letter (+/-) x where x=1,2,3..
S
For Eg. CREAMY => R+2=T, or Y-2 =W etc.
E
ii. Reverse alphabetical order is also very common. [Discussed in class]
T
iii. Sometimes Letters appearing in code can also be based on total number of letters . FOr eg Water is
I
5 letters , hence 5=E.
iv. Letters are also based on the first vowel/consonant from right or left.
IN
v. Letters are also based on the difference of first and last letter or highest and lowest letter.
F
Example RIVER [R=18, I= 9, V=22] So if we add first and last , we get 36, we don't have 36th as an
alphabet, so here they can use digital sum =9=I.
N
Similarly, 22-18 =4 = D can be used if Highest and lowest is taken.
I With time more will be added in this.
LOGIC
NUMBERS SYMBOLS
CODING
DECODING
These are easiest and the trickiest at the same time.
L
Before trying to look at the logic, take a glance at all the numbers to observe a pattern which may be all nunbers are multiple of 3, 4, 5,
Squares , cubes etc. This will help you assign words for particular code easily. Examples based on these are discussed in class.
A
Now, The most common LOGICS seen are ::
i. Codes for position of the letter or its position in reverse order.
IM
Eg. 18 for River , 8 for Hay etc. Here First letter's position is written as number.
S
Similarly, we can have Zurich as 1 and Move as 14 where 1 and 14 are reverse of Z(=a=1) and M(=N=14)
E
ii. Number = ( First or last letter ) + x where x is generally from 1 to 5.
IT
iii. Number as middle letter position of reverse position of middle letter.
FIN iv. Digital sum is very popular now a days.
Digital sum of first letter only or second letter only, last letter only, second last letter, sum of first and second, or first or last,
N
difference of first and last.
I
v. Multiplying/adding/subtracting 2 or 3 with first, second, last and second last or middle.
vi. Sum or difference of Highest and lowest position letter.
These are the first ones that you will check.
Rest Alien technology is always welcomed, but these must be your pre-requisite.
THAT'S A WRAP!
