Time Allotment: 60 minutes
I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Identify the different fields under applied social sciences (e.g., Social Work, Guidance
and Counseling, Communication).
2. Differentiate the roles, focus, and methods of each discipline.
3. Analyze real-life scenarios to determine the appropriate applied social science field
involved.
4. Appreciate the unique contributions of each field in addressing societal issues.
II. Materials Needed
Projector/TV for presentation
Printed handouts or slides (overview of the fields)
Whiteboard and markers
Manila paper and markers for group work
Scenario cards or case examples
III. Lesson Procedure
A. Introduction (10 minutes)
Activity: “Who Does What?”
Show three example roles:
1. A person helping a family in crisis get government aid.
2. A school counselor helping students choose a college course.
3. A media specialist planning a public health campaign.
Ask: Which profession do you think each person belongs to?
→ Lead into the topic: These are applied social science professionals.
B. Lesson Proper (30 minutes)
1. Brief Overview of Applied Social Science Fields (15 minutes)

2. Use a Chart or Venn Diagram (Visual Aid)
Show overlapping skills: interpersonal communication, problem-solving, ethics.
Show distinctions: settings, approaches, objectives.
3. Real-Life Examples and Case Discussions (15 minutes)
Distribute 3 scenario cards per group.
Groups decide which applied social science field fits each scenario best.
Example scenarios:
o A student is experiencing anxiety and needs someone to talk to.
o A barangay is implementing an anti-drug campaign using radio and flyers.
o A child is neglected and needs intervention and support services.
Let groups present their answers and justifications.
C. Generalization / Synthesis (5 minutes)
Ask students:
What is the importance of knowing the differences among the applied social sciences?
How do these fields complement one another?
Summarize:
All aim to solve human and societal problems.
Each has a unique method and area of expertise.
Collaboration among them makes responses more holistic.
IV. Assessment (5 minutes)
