Lecture: Topic and Outline Assignment
Topic Choice – We will delve into the fascinating realm of psychology, exploring the
profound influence of peer relationships on adolescent cognitive development.
Lecture Outline – This lecture is not just about theory but about understanding the real-
world implications of adolescent cognitive development. We will explore how parental
influence shifts to peer influence and how adolescents shape their identity based on peer
perception. These are key concepts that you can apply in your future work in psychology
or child development. Key focal points to be discussed:
1. Foundational Influence
2. Parents vs. Peer Relationship
3. Key Contributors to Adolescent Identity Development
4. Whose Voice is the Loudest
Active Learning- The class will break up into small groups. Within the small groups will
be asked to recall their favorite bands/artists during their high school years. This exercise
is designed to help students reflect on how their musical preferences were influenced by
their peers during adolescence. Students will also be asked to recall the very first music
they remember hearing in their homes as a kid and whether they listen to some of the
same music today. After recalling their musical history, students will be asked to discuss
one another their similarities and those that influenced their music selections. The goal
will be to determine just how influential each influencer (parents and peers) is.
