In the world we live in as of today, it is hard to find a reason on how the virus is being formed and how
it’s being transmitted to another person. Well for COVID-19 especially that there are many variants of
the virus like Delta or Omicron, they are finding out the reasons on how it’s being formed. That’s the
time when we really need to apply Anthropology. But some of us don’t know why we need it to observe
and solving problems about the virus. So allow me to explain the role of Anthropology to studying about
the COVID-19 virus.
But before we discuss about the role of Anthropology. Let us first know a little bit of background about
Anthropology. The meaning of Anthropology is about studying the human societies, cultures and the
development. For example, we apply this to the study of the evolution of Homo Sapiens from the history
and comparing it to humans in the 21st century. Studying about Anthropology has become more wider
as the years went by. Well we might wonder, why do we need to apply this kind of study to the COVID-
19 pandemic? The reason is that it is already proven that the said virus is it can spread to a group of
people in a matter of seconds and the infected people can feel the symptoms after may hours or days
such as colds, lack of taste, cough & fever. This is the second time that humans experienced a pandemic
since the year 1918. So if this kind of virus happened in the said year, probably many people or twice as
many as of today would die. And that is why it’s important to study this so that we can think a faster
solution to lessen the spread of the deadly virus that we are currently facing.
So now, we already know why the role of Anthropology is important in our current fight against the
COVID-19 pandemic. If we know some knowledge or some thoughts to help lessen the cases and also to
slow down the spread, tell your family, friends and those you know so that many people can also help.
