BANI ARORA – IInd A

Hi, everyone! I’m going to show you an amazing science experiment about air pressure. Air
is all around us, even if we can’t see it, and it can do some cool things! This experiment will
show you how air pressure can be used to make water dispenser.

1. Aim of the Experiment

To demonstrate how air pressure can be used to push water through a straw.

2. Materials needed

-An empty plastic bottle

-A balloon

-A glass of water

-A straw

-Tape (to seal the straw)

3. Procedure

-Make a hole in upper half of the bottle.

-Pass the straw through the hole. leave 1/3rd of the straw out of the bottle.

-Seal the opening around the straw with tape so no air can escape. This is
important!

-Now fill the bottle till the hole with water.

-Blow up the balloon (don’t tie it) and keep it pinched so the air doesn’t escape.

-Stretch the neck of the balloon over the top of the bottle, making sure it’s tight and
secure.

-Let go of the balloon. As the air rushes out of the balloon, you’ll see water come out
of the straw like a fountain!
4. What’s Happening?

When you let go of the balloon, the air inside it pushes down on the water in the bottle.

This extra pressure from the air makes the water go up the straw and shoot out!

This shows how air pressure can move things, even though we can’t see the air.

5. Conclusion

Air pressure is all around us, and it helps us do many cool things in real life, like inflating
tires, flying airplanes, or drinking juice through a straw!
