CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Work performance is essential for achieving specific
objectives within a work setting. It is crucial for
professionals at all levels to strive for exceptional
results while supporting their colleagues. Job performance
significantly impacts the foundation of an organization, as
it encompasses an individual's contribution to the overall
success of the organization.
Newly hired employees often require training, even if
they are already familiar with the equipment they will be
using. The goal is to maximize productivity and align with
the organization’s objectives. Training becomes more
challenging when employees have minimal experience or are
in unfamiliar roles. The organization’s selection criteria
focus on hiring individuals with the intelligence, aptitude,
and attitude to learn the job effectively.
Taking on-the-job training might be challenging.
Students must complete the duty assigned to them by their
superiors. The trainee was assigned to several units in
order to improve their job performance skills.
Effective student-to-student communication is essential
for enhancing productivity. Superiors play a crucial role in
demonstrating and instructing students on necessary tasks
and abilities. They are responsible for imparting knowledge
and skills to the students. To ensure a positive connection
and successful completion of duties, it is important to
avoid problems between students and superiors. Interns
should actively engage in skill acquisition during
instructions to understand the job’s value for future
employment.
On-the-job training offers several advantages,
including flexibility in scheduling, prompt feedback for
trainees, and the opportunity to learn from colleagues,
promoting team integration. However, there are also some
drawbacks to consider. Training sessions may be scheduled
based on convenience rather than optimal learning, excessive
training in a single session can lead to trainee fatigue,
and trainers may lack the necessary knowledge or expertise
in instructional techniques
On-the-job training students are really fortunate
because they are typically the ones who take joy in learning
new skills. They improved their future employment value and
gained new capabilities in their future careers.
Furthermore, by making learning possible, they earned
respect and built long-term relationships between students
and superiors.
Criminology internship provide students and new
graduates with opportunity to gain experience in the field,
develop professional and analytical experience in law
enforcement issues, especially in terms of community
concerns, crime patterns and case analysis. Other
responsibilities include assessment and filing. Criminology
students are exposed to an on-the-job training
The Bachelor of Science in Criminology program is
intended to educate students with knowledge and skills in
the study of historical and contemporary patterns of crime,
societal reactions to crime, societal causes of criminality,
and delinquency research.
The researcher opted to conduct this case study in order to
explore the personal challenges faced by criminology interns
at Philippine College of Northwestern Luzon and understand
how these challenges influence their work performance.
Criminology Interns at the Philippine College of
Northwestern Luzon. The outcomes of this study will be used
by school administrators, instructors, interns, and future
researchers as a future reference. This research will be
beneficial to criminology students and interns who need to
finish their assignments. It also allows them to improve
their morale, productivity, and professionalism, all of
which will help them become highly qualified for their job.
By identifying the work performance of Criminology
interns during their on-the-job training, the researchers
are confident that future interns will be well prepared,
competent and skilled so that they will be better prepared
once they joined their chosen field of employment.
