Introduction To Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) simulates human intelligence in machines for tasks like speech recognition and problem-solving. Its evolution began in the 1950s with Turing's concepts and has progressed through expert systems to modern machine learning. AI is categorized into Narrow AI, General AI, and Super AI, with applications spanning healthcare, finance, manufacturing, education, and transportation.

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI)

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are
programmed to think, learn, and make decisions. AI systems can perform tasks such as recognizing
speech, learning from data, planning, and problem-solving. The primary goal of AI is to create
systems that can function intelligently and independently.

History and Evolution

• 1950s: Alan Turing introduced the concept of a machine that could simulate any human
intelligence.

• 1956: John McCarthy coined the term "Artificial Intelligence" at the Dartmouth Conference.

• 1980s: Expert systems became popular, where machines mimicked the decision-making
ability of a human expert.

• 2000s and beyond: With increased data and computational power, machine learning and
deep learning became central to AI.

Types of AI

1. Narrow AI: Also known as weak AI, this type is designed for a specific task (e.g., Siri, Google
Translate).

2. General AI: AI with general cognitive abilities like a human, capable of learning and applying
intelligence to any problem.

3. Super AI: A hypothetical form of AI that surpasses human intelligence across all fields.

Applications of AI

• Healthcare (e.g., diagnosis, drug discovery)

• Finance (e.g., fraud detection, stock trading)

• Manufacturing (e.g., robotics, automation)

• Education (e.g., personalized learning)

• Transportation (e.g., self-driving cars)
