Materials needed: Pictures of a handsome man and a pretty girl, video clip of family reunion from the main
1B, unit 5 clips

Strategies/ Steps of Presentation
Warm-up activity:
Play Hangman game. (The word means meeting family members or relative in a special event)
Write the word ‘family _ _ _ _ _ _ _’ and tell the students the meaning of the word is ‘meeting family members or relative
in a special event like marriage, graduation, New Year, etc.

Students guess the first letter. And then ask them to guess other letters.
-Tr. writes the phrase “family reunion” on the board and let students listen and pronounce the word reunion.
-Then tell Ss that A family reunion is a planned event that gives everyone the chance to see each other and share
important events like marriages, birth, and graduation/meeting relatives in a special event. In Cambodia, Cambodian
people have family reunion on Pchum Ben, Khmer New Year, Wedding, any ceremonies, etc.

A. Listen and practice:


1-Book closed: Tr. writes sentences on bb. Ss copy them.
Listen and write T (True) or F (False).
____1- Tom is smart and thin.
____2- Pam is handsome.
____3- Sally’s grandfather is very friendly.
____4- Sally’s mother is short.
____5- Sally’s aunt is a little crazy.
-Tr. plays it twice. Ss listen and write T or F.
-Ss compare their answers with their partners.
-Tr, walks around and helps them. Tr. elicits answers and writes them on bb.
Possible methods:
1-Book closed:
1. Write the sentences with blanks for adjectives. Play the audio.
2. Write the two or three sentences with blanks for adjectives. Play the audio. Ss complete the blanks.
3. Write one or two initials of each adjective: sm for smart; th for thin. Play the audio. Ss write adjectives.
4. Unscrambled or missing letters in adjective. tarms; th _n. Then play the audio. Students scramble or complete the blanks.
2- Book open. The students read and listen and check their answers
Answers: 1.T; 2.F; 3.T; 4.F; 5.T
3-The students listen and repeat the sentences as the whole class and then individually.
4- Ask different Ss to read aloud for pronunciation and check to make sure they pronounce correctly.
5- The students complete the task individually [6- NA & 7-NA]
8- Ask different ss to read aloud only the words in red; check the pronunciation. Tr. explains new words:
-handsome /ˈhæn.səm/ (adj) = good-looking, nice-looking, or attractive
Example: Ronaldo is very handsome. He always looks nice with his sports uniform.
-pretty /ˈprɪt.i/ (adj) = good-looking; lovely; attractive
-smart (adjective) = intelligent or able to think quickly in a difficult situation
Example: Dara usually gets high score/ grade A for the test.
-short (adj) = the opposite of tall (Tr. has two students to stand in front and shows them.)
-thin (adj) = not fat (Tr. has two students to stand in front and shows them. / Use simple drawing)
-friendly(adj) = when you like and talk to other people, and smile at people when you meet them
-shy (adj) = the opposite of friendly, not liking to talk with others (do gesture for students)
-funny (adjective)= making people laugh and happy
Example: Mr. Peakmey is funny. Mr. Bean is funny.
-crazy (adjective) = when you like to do something very strange, foolish, or not sensible.
Example: We cannot eat pens, but John can. He is crazy.
9- Check their pronunciation again if necessary
B. Write the words in the correct columns:
1-Ask the students to copy the chart into their notebooks.
2-Tr. asks Ss to read about Sally’s family again to complete the chart with the correct words to describe the
appearance or personality.
3- Explain and give examples:
+appearance = what someone looks like or something outside of a person we can see.
Example: You can see your appearance in the mirror
+personality = the type of person you are or you know someone’s personality by the way he or she behaves, feels, and
thinks.
Example: Thida is friendly. But her brother is shy.
4- The students complete the task individually.
5- The teacher walks around and helps.
6- Ask the students to compare answers; then ask different Ss to write the answer on the board.
7-Check the answer and give feedback.

Drill/ Put it into practice:
-Tr. describes one student/ his or her family member in the class.
Example: My classmate is Tola. He’s 15. He’s tall and thin. He’s funny.
(OR) My brother’s name is Sopheak. He’s 25 years old. He’s tall and fat. He’s friendly. He has a lot of friends.
-Tr. asks Ss to describe their classmates/ family members to their partners.
Extra/ Game:
Game 1: Dictation competition: divide the class in to 3 groups and ask them to sit in line (one line for one
group); give a paper to the first Ss in each line to write the word (some or all adjectives in Exercise 1; one at a
time); Tr. dictates; after she / he finishes, she / he passes the paper to the second Ss to check and correct and
pass to the next; give 3 points to the group that finishes first, 2 points second, 1 point third, and 0 to the group(s)
with wrong spelling; the group with the most points win.

Game 2: Hot Potato: Write the questions on papers. Questions: What’s your sister like? What’s your brother
like? What’s your mother like? What’s your father like? How many brothers/sisters do you have? You crumble
the papers to make a ball. Students sit in a circle. Tr. plays music and pauses. Ss remove a paper from the ball
and answer the question.

Game 3: Guess: Divide the class into three groups and ask them to sit in line (one line for one group); Ask one
student from each group to stand with the back to the board; On the board, write the one word at a time related
to adjectives to describe appearance or personality e.g., handsome, friendly, smart; Let each group member do
gesture or mime the activity to explain the words on the board; Each student look at their group and guesses the
word. The one who guesses correctly will earn one point for their group. Each student may take turns standing
in front of the board. The group who wins many words is the winner.

A. Complete the conversation:

1- Tr. asks the students to read the grammar box.
2-Then explain the grammar point following the teacher book’s suggestion and ask Ss to copy:

3-Tr. gives the students a quick drill on this grammar point: Tr. asks Ss to ask and answer about people in
