Composition of Functions

The document provides a comprehensive overview of composite functions, including their definition and how to perform compositions of functions. It includes examples with specific functions to illustrate the calculations for (f ∘ g)(x), (g ∘ f)(x), and others. Additionally, it presents problems involving the composition of different functions and their solutions.

COMPOSITION OF

FUNCTIONS
General Mathematics
 Define composite function.

 Perform composition of functions.

 Solve problems involving composition

of functions.
COMPOSITE FUNCTION
Given two functions 𝑓(𝑥) and 𝑔 𝑥 , the composite function
denoted by (𝑓 ∘𝑔)(𝑥) is defined by

𝑓 ∘𝑔 𝑥 = 𝑓(𝑔 𝑥 )

and the domain of 𝑓 ∘𝑔 𝑥 is set of all numbers x in the

domain of 𝑔 𝑥 , such that 𝑔 𝑥 is the domain of 𝑓(𝑥).
