DOWNLOADING AND USING OFFLINE MAPS

Google Maps Offline

Make sure you’re signed in to Google Maps on your Android or iOS device and
connected to Wi-Fi (or mobile data if you prefer).

Open Google Maps and search for the city, region or area you want to save.

Tap the place name or address at the bottom to pull up its info card.

Tap the three-dot menu icon, then choose Download offline map.

Adjust the rectangular frame by pinching or dragging to cover the exact area you
need.

Tap Download and wait for the map data to finish saving.

Accessing and Managing Your Offline Maps

In Google Maps, tap your profile picture (top right), then select Offline maps.

You’ll see a list of all downloaded areas. Tap one to open it for navigation
without internet.

To update a map before it expires (after about a year), tap its three-dot menu and
choose Update.

To free up space, tap the three-dot menu next to any offline map and select Delete.

Using Offline Maps for Navigation

Open Google Maps and choose the offline map you downloaded.

Enter your destination as usual; turn-by-turn driving directions work as long as

your route stays within the offline area.

Note: live traffic, public-transit schedules, alternate-route suggestions and

walking/cycling directions require an online connection.

Alternative Offline-Map Apps

HERE WeGo • Free worldwide map downloads, offline turn-by-turn navigation, and
public-transit guidance.

OsmAnd (OpenStreetMap-based) • Fully offline, highly customizable map styles, POI

overlays and route-planning.

MAPS.ME • Fast downloads, offline search, bookmarks and itinerary planning.

Tips for Reliable Offline Navigation

Pre-download all required areas before entering low-signal or roaming zones.

Keep an eye on available storage—large regions (metro areas, national parks) can be
hundreds of megabytes.

Enable automatic updates on Wi-Fi if you revisit the same areas frequently.
Carry a power bank and enable low-power mode to stretch battery life when using GPS
offline.
