Step-by-step guide

Create and modify tables


Add supplemental information to your designs in the form of Excel-like tables.

Learning objectives:

1. Open the Post-frame_Project.dwg file
provided in the data set.

2. In the Annotate tab, Tables panel, click


the Table tool.
Use the following Insert behavior
options:
Specify insertion point
Columns: 5
Column width: ¾ʺ
Data rows: 4

Click OK.

3. Place the table in upper-right corner and


type POST SCHEDULE in the title cell.

4. Type the follow column headings, left to
right. Press tab to advance from cell to
cell.
POST
REQʹD
DESC
LENGTH
TREATED

5. Type the following values for the first


data row:
POST: A
REQʹD: 5
DESC: 6x6
LENGTH: 16ʹ-0ʺ
TREATED: YES

6. Fill the remaining data rows for the POST
and REQʹD columns:
POST: B, REQʹD: 4
POST: C, REQʹD: 2
POST: D, REQʹD: 1

7. Press and hold the shift key and click the


top data cells under DESC, LENGTH, and
TREATED to select the three cells.

8. Click the cyan color diamond grip and


drag it down to fill the data cells below.

9. Switch to the Parts List layout tab.
In the Annotate tab, Tables panel, click
the Table tool.
In the Annotate tab, Tables panel, click
the Table Styles drop-down menu and set
the Parts List style current.

10. Open the Parts_List.xls file provided in


the data set.
Select all the cells containing data and
copy it to the clipboard.

11. Switch back to AutoCAD. Right-click
anywhere in paper space and choose
Clipboard > Paste Special.

12. Select AutoCAD Entities and click OK to


paste the clipboard contents as an
AutoCAD table.

13. Place the table and select it to use grips
to adjust the table as needed.

14. Select the table by clicking on any border,


right-clicking and choosing Export.
Choose a desired destination and
filename to export table data to a CSV
file.

15. Double-click outside of the viewport to
return to paper space.
Select the viewport. Click the triangular
scale grip in the middle of the viewport
and choose 3/8ʺ=1ʹ-0ʺ.
Type REGENALL to refresh the viewport to
show all the annotation resized to reflect
the new viewport scale.

16. Double-click inside the viewport.


Select the dimensions.
Right-click and choose Annotative Object
Scale > Add/Delete Scales. Remove the
½ʺ=1ʹ-0ʺ scale that is no longer needed.
