GEARBOX ASSEMBLY, NEW PINION BEARING CAGE-INSTALL

PLANNING INFORMATION:
EFFECTIVlTY: All 250-Cl8 and Cl8B Gearboxes prior to CAG22455.

All 250-Cl8A and Cl8C Gearboxes prior to CAG 23552.

All 250-B17 Gearboxes prior to CAG 60012.

All 250-C20 Gearboxes prior to CAG 30390.

Converted 250-C20 Gearboxes (identified by the letters

BA following the gearbox serial number)-inspect and
comply if necessary.

REASGN: To prevent excessive bearing looseness and resulting

wear in the pinion bearing cage. Cage wear can result
in loose bearing fit, shaft spline wear and metal generation.

DESCRIPTION: Former cages, when manufactured and when repaired

by plating the ID at overhaul, were finish machined in
a fixture prior to being pressed into, the gearbox cover.

The new pinion bearing cages have machining stock

and are to be finish machiied after installation in the
cover. Using this procedure of sizing the cages allows
the pinion bearing fit to be improved to 0. OOOlL to
0.0007L on all engines.

To accomplish these changes, the old pinion bearing

cage is removed and the new cage is installed. The
new cage ID is then finish machined while installed in
the cover to provide 0. OOOIL to 0.0007L fit for the pinion
bearing. Following incorporation of the new cage, the
gearbox cover is reidentified.
