Music Lesson Plan

● Overview And Main Objectives:

1. Identify basic note values (whole note, half note, quarter note) and their visual representation.
2. Translate simple improvised melodies into basic notation using provided staff paper.
3. Read and perform short musical phrases written in basic notation.

M.CR.1: Generate musical ideas through reading, notating, and/or interpreting music.

All objectives align with the Oklahoma state standards


( PK.M.CR.1.2, K.M.CR.1.2,1.M.CR.1.2, 2.M.CR.1.2, 3.M.CR.1.2, 4.M.CR.1.2 )

● Objectives and plans will be altered for grades (pre-k to 4th), and adjusted as needed.

Objectives
At the end of Week 3, students will demonstrate their
learning by performing their compositions and participating in
an ear training activity.

-Adaptations: Adjusting activities based on age and skill


level. For Pre-K, using more visuals and hands-on activities;
for older grades, incorporate more complex patterns and
melodies.
-Assessment: Throughout the lessons, assess students'
ability to:

-M.CR.1.2 Improvise melodic and rhythmic answers with or


without a system of syllables, numbers or basic notation
using voice, classroom instruments, or technology to
demonstrate basic notation.

Material needed -Whiteboard and markers. Time


-Staff paper (large for group activities, individual for
assignments).
-Rhythm flashcards
- Note value flashcards (whole, half, quarter).
-Classroom percussion instruments (drums, tambourines,
maracas)
-Boomwhackers or xylophones
-Ipads for Quizizz & Liveworksheets.
Week 1: Note Values.
(January 17-21) Day 1:Introduction to Note Values

Objective: Identify and understand whole, half, and quarter


notes and their duration.

Activities:

-Warm-Up (5 min): Clap simple rhythms using whole, half,


and quarter notes.

-Teacher Demo (10 min): Show note value flashcards and


demonstrate their durations using claps and stomps.

-Group Activity (15 min): Students use percussion


instruments to perform rhythms shown on flashcards.

-Wrap-Up (5 min): Quick quiz—students identify note values


from flashcards.

- Vocabulary Assignment: Draw each note (whole, half,


quarter) and write how many beats each represents.

- Identify and understand whole, half, and quarter notes and


their duration.

Day 2: Improvising with Note Values

● Objective: Improvise simple rhythmic patterns using


whole, half, and quarter notes.
● Activities:

-Warm-Up (5 min): Rhythm echo (teacher claps a pattern,


students echo).

-Teacher Demo (10 min): Demonstrate improvisation using


a 4-beat measure.

-Student Activity (15 min): Students take turns creating 4-


beat patterns using note value flashcards.

-Wrap-Up (5 min): Class performs student-created patterns


together.

-Vocabulary Assignment: Create a 4-beat rhythm pattern


using whole, half, and quarter notes on provided paper.
Week 2:Naming the Day 1:Understanding the Staff and Line Notes
Music Notes on the
Lines Objective: Identify the names of the notes on the lines of the
staff (E-G-B-D-F).
(February 24-28)
Activities:

-Warm-Up (5 min): Sing the mnemonic "Every Good Boy


Does Fine."

-Teacher Demo (10 min): Show the staff and identify line
notes using flashcards.

-Student Practice (15 min): Students place note cards on a


large floor staff.

-Wrap-Up (5 min): Review line notes with a quick quiz.

-Vocabulary Assignment: Write the mnemonic for the line


notes and draw the notes on a staff diagram.

Day 2: Playing and Improvising with Line Notes

Objective: Read and perform notes placed on the lines of


the staff using classroom instruments.

Activities:

-Warm-Up (5 min): Practice singing the line notes.

-Teacher Demo (10 min): Demonstrate playing line notes on


xylophones or boomwhackers.

-Student Practice (15 min): Students take turns playing
