1. Preface
Thanks for using the CALIBRATION TOOL of ANGELL DR workstation system.
It’s our greatest honor that you can become the user of Shenzhen Angell Technology Co.,
Ltd.
You can master the usage of the calibration software in a short time with the instruction.
Please read it for reference. In the first time installation and operation of the software, please
do read all the documents to avoid the troubles.
We promise the information we provide in this guide is correct and reliable; however,
there may be some information lost or oversight. In case these happen, we earnestly request
your understanding. And your suggestion is warmly welcomed. Shenzhen Angell Technology
Co., Ltd will be responsible for technical and editing mistakes and oversights in this user
guide.
In order to better meet the users’ requirements, we may do some change in aspects of
software or hardware to improve the image quality and function stability. This may lead few
inconsistencies between the actual product and the specification. In view of this situation, we
will try to illustrate with relevant information. But if there is still an inconsistency, hope to get
your understanding.
In case any problem occurs while using CALIBRATION TOOL software, please dial

2. Introduction of Calibration Tool

CALIBRATION TOOL is the software that provides image acquisition and calibration. It
is used by service engineer for DR installation and testing.

3. Operation Environment of Calibration Tool

Windows 2000/ XP operation system


CPU: Dual core processor 2.0GHz
Memory: >2GB
Hard Disk: >160GB
Monitor: 1280 * 1024 pixels (32 bits)
Other Accessories: Mouse, keyboard

4. Installation

4.1 Installation of Computer

1) Hard Disk Partition, Formatting


We recommend dividing the hard disk into C, D 2 partitions and setting Saving Path to D
Disk, so that the data cannot be lost easily in case the system turns abnormal.
2) Installation of the operation system
We recommend using Windows XP Operation System (typical installation).
3) Installation of INTEL Network Card Driver
Please install the operation system first, and then insert the network card.
(Network Card Driver: exclusive use INTEL Network Card Driver for GIGE).

4.2 Installation of Calibration Tool

The CALIBRATION TOOL software will be obtained once you installed the DR3.3.0.0
workstation software.

5. Debugging Tools

5.1 “ROI pickup” button

“ROI pickup” button is used for the GAIN calibration setting to judge the brightest
image area and average value. In the “8.Pre Test” interface, “ROI pickup” button is used for
the calculation of the exposure dose to see the pair lines better when testing the DR detector
resolution.

“ROI pickup” button can be used in the interface of “5.30%GAIN Corr”, “6.60%GAIN
Corr”, “8.Pre Test” while the image generated, or else, this button can not be used. When
open one of those interfaces and acquire image at the first time, the 150×150 red box shows in
the center, and the average value of image center shows “Current ROI Avg value” on the
property page. After the secondary image acquisition, related software shows “Current ROI
Avg value”, and the average value shows in the last chosen position.

5.2 “FIT” “100%” “200%” “400%” “800%” “1600%”button

After press these buttons, image will change to FIT, 1 time size, 2 times, 4 times, 8 times,
16times. These functional buttons can be used only when the images existed in “3.Bad Pixel
Line Corr” and “8.Pre Test” interface.

5.3 “Pan” button

Click the Pan button, the mouse becomes (hand-shape icon), click the left button
on the mouse and drag it (dragging icon), during the mouse dragging, the images shift
as the mouse to realize the enlarged image viewing, which can only be used in “3.Bad Pixel
Line Corr” and “8.Pre Test” interface.

5.4 “Invert” button

Press the “Invert” button, and the image invert white and black, this function can be used
only when image exists in the “3.Bad Pixel Line Corr” and “8.Pre Test” interface.

5.5 “P-Line Pickup” button

The “P-Line Pickup” function button can only be used in the “3.Bad Pixel Line Corr”
interface.
The images generated after Pixel Line Corr in the interface of “1.Detector”, “2.Offset
Corr”, “4.Dark Corr”, “5.30%GAIN Corr”, “6.60%GAIN Corr”, “7.FOV Corr”. The
generated image in the “3.Pixel Line Corr” and “8.Pre Test” interface without default pixel
line calibration. Select “3.Bad Pixel Line Corr” in “8.Pre Test”, click “Pre-TEST” button, then
the exposed image generated with Pixel Line Corr.
The detailed instruction of this button is in this guide “6.4 Bad Pixel Line Corr”.

5.6 Windows level adjust

Windows level adjust is operated by the right button mouse in default. The windows
level adjust function helps to find the problem pixel line in “3.Pixel Line Corr”, and identify
the resolution value in “8.Pre Test”, but this function will be shut automatically in other
interfaces.
Specific operations: Press the right button mouse and move within the image area,
(mouse icon ), the mouse icon changed as window level, move the mouse to adjust in
vertical (windows location get small downwards and get large upwards), move the mouse to
adjust in horizontal (windows width get small left towards and get large right towards). If
mouse moves in oblique direction, the window width and location change at the same time.)

6. Usage of the Calibration Tool

The purpose of calibration is to compensate the deficient pixels and correct the pixel gain
of the x-ray generator and x-ray tube.
Please do calibration for the machine, when first time installation of the detector;
replacing x-ray generator; replacing for the x-ray tube.

6.1 Usage Procedure

1). Confirm acquisition matrix


2). Set offset
3). Bad Pixel Line calibration
4). Create dark calibration table
5). Create GAIN calibration table
6). Set FOV calibration
7). Test calibration result
8). Detector resolution testing

6.2 Confirmation of Acquisition Matrix

1). Run the “Calibration Tool” software and select “1.Detector” tab, as show like picture 6-2.
If everything is normal, it will show “All init is ok” behind the “Device State”, if it is not,
check the following the hint until it shows normally and get image successful. If the device
has AEC function, the checkbox “has AEC” should be checked (the default state), else click it
to uncheck it.
Select the tab page “1.Detector”, and then select the right matrix value in the combo box
according to the detector’s matrix of CCD. For example, in case the installed detector is 2K,
the capture option should be set to 2048 x 2048 in the combo box. Then click “Save” Button,
and in the “INFO” Box there will be relevant hints.

2). Confirm the present acquisition matrix is correct or not; if not, please reselect. Five kinds
of matrix can be selected: 768 x 768, 1024x1024, 2048×2048;3072×3072;4096×4096.
Each time “Capture Matrix” is changed, click “Save” and then “ReInit” Button to activate the
change. After clicking “ReInit”, the button turns gray and then turns black if re-initialization
is successful. Otherwise, there will be corresponding hints.
3). Double click the “GeneratorCtrl.exe” file under “DRV3.3.0.0” Installation Folder. As
shown in Picture 6-2.1. Set a low high-voltage parameter. Expose with the handle to get an
image and check if the imaging is normal. Carry out below calibration in case imaging is
normal.

Note: In case GeneratorCtrl.exe is used to check the condition of high voltage with
the function of AEC is applied, the calibration software should be opened and “ReInit”
Button clicked. After that, the control box is able to detect if the handle is at 2nd gear and
the exposure of the high voltage can be controlled.

6.3 Set offset

Choose “2.Offset Corr” in the calibration software to enter offset calibration interface. As
shown in Picture 6-3.

Calibration Steps:
1) Use GeneratorCtrl.exe to set proper dose and get image after exposure.
2). Click the offset area, and input the proper parameters according to the present display
coordinate in edit box of XOFFSET and YOFFSET.
3). Save the parameters and click "save setting".
4).Choose the proper dose to expose and get image.
5). Check if the image offset is OK, if yes, go on to next calibration. If not, repeat the above
steps until satisfactory image is obtained.

Note: During offset calibration, take care of the offset value range. In the condition
of 2K, Xoffset value should not be higher than 659, and Yoffset no higher than 50. If 4K,
Xoffset should not be higher than 630, Yoffset no higher than 102. If 3K, Xoffset should
not be higher than 1600, Yoffset no higher than 1100.

6.4 Bad Pixel Line calibration

Select “3.Bab Pixel Line Corr” tab, as shown in Picture 6-4.

1). Set the proper x-ray dose, press the expose button and take image. Press the
“1600%”zoom and “P-Line Pickup” button. If only press on the “P-Line Pickup” button, the
dialog shows, it means the users can use this function only in the 1600% image status.

2). Find the problem pixel line by image moving, invert, windows level adjust in the image
display area, click the beginning and ending position on the bad pixel line by left button
mouse. (It means click twice.)
3). The message box pops up after click the ending position. Mention the users whether to add
the present pixel line coordinate to the pixel coordinate list or not. If there is no problem in
the operation, please click “yes” and the present pixel coordinate was input the pixel line list
on “3.Pixel Line Corr” interface.

4). If there are other pixel lines, please repeat 2), 3). If you want to delete the specified pixel
line, please select it and click “Delete pixel line” button. Click the “SAVE” button after
adding all the problem pixel line coordinate.

Attention: 10 pieces pixel line can be added in the pixel line list at most,
if more than 10 pieces, the message box pops up, it means the pixel line can
not be added any more.

6.5 Create Dark Calibration Table

Select “4.Dark Cblibration” tab. As shown in Picture 6-5.


The dark calibration table is created as below:
1) Get a dark image. If the detector has AEC function, set the high voltage dose to the
minimum value while getting dark image. The handle operation is same as in getting bright
image, i.e. press the first gear and then the second gear of the handle, but be careful that the
shielding door should be closed. If the detector has no AEC function, press the hand straight
down to bottom to get dark image.
2) In case the detector has AEC function, skip Step 2. In case no AEC, click “ROI pickup”
Button to find the average value in the brightest 150x150 area of current image and confirm
that the average value in current image’s brightest area lies between 256 and 2560. (Note:
During dark image capturing, the average value may be outside the average value range. In
this case, check if there is light leakage while getting dark image.)

3). Click “Get Image” and save the dark image.
4). Repeat step 2), 3) to save 20 pieces of images.
5). If you need to stop operation or redo when mistake happened in midway, you can click
“Delete Image”.
6).If there are 20 pieces of dark images in “Store Image Number (20pcs)”, please click
“Create Dark Table”. The created table is saved under the sub folder CorrectionFiles under the
Installation Folder, table name “DARKXK (X may be 2, 3 or 4 which indicates 2K, 3K or 4K
of the detector in use).

Attention: Please click "Delete Image" when change matrix or redo dark
calibration.

6.6 30%GAIN Corr Table Creation

Select “5.30%GAIN Corr”. As shown in Picture 6-6. Calibration steps as below:


1). Set the distance between the x-ray tube and detector as 1.5 meter without grid.
2). Set proper exposure dose to make the Ave value of the brightest area of Air Image (namely
Gain image) fall between 18350 and 20316. (While getting GAIN image, 2048x2048 detector
is to use 80kv 320ma 2ms. If the Ave value of the brightest area doesn’t fall between 18350
and 20316, adjust ms parameter and then slightly adjust kv; for the 3072x3072 or 4096x4096
detector, also first adjust ms parameter and then slight adjust kv. No need to adjust dose when
getting dark image). Now is ready to create calibration table.

3). First, create a dark image, same operation as in the dark calibration. Then set proper high
voltage dose to get Gain Image. Each time getting an image, if the image is acceptable, click
“Get Image” Button to save the present image, then to get a next image. Dark images and
Gain images are obtained in turn. 10 dark images and Gain images each will be saved. (Note:
Sometimes the tube is not working well, i.e. the previous Ave value of Gain image’s brightest
area is within normal range but the later one is outside the range. In this case, continue with
the normal steps.)
4). Click “Create 30% GAIN Table”. And it will show “Create GAIN table successfully”. The
table created is saved in the Sub Folder “CorrectionFiles” under the Installation Folder, to be

used in breast calibration.


5). If you need to stop the operation in midway, please click “Delete Image”, then repeat
operation.

Attention: pay attention to the prompt message. When change the matrix or redo
the GAIN Calibration, please remember to click “Delete Image”.

6.7 60%GAIN Corr Creation

Choose “6.60% GAIN Corr”, as shown in Figure 6.7-1. Calibration steps as below:

1). Set the distance between x-ray tube and detector as 1 meter without grid.
2). Set proper exposure dose to make the Ave value of the brightest area of Air Image (namely
Gain image) fall between 38010 and 39978. (When getting GAIN image, 2048x2048 detector
is to use 80kv ma ms. If the Ave value of the brightest area doesn’t fall between 38010 and
39978, adjust ms parameter and then slightly adjust kv; for the 3072x3072 or 4096x4096
detector, also first adjust ms parameter and then slight adjust kv. No need to adjust dose when
getting dark image). Now is ready to create calibration table.
3). First, create a dark image, same operation as in the dark calibration. Then set proper high
voltage dose to get Gain Image. Each time getting an image, if the image is acceptable, click

“Get Image” Button to save the present image, then to get a next image. Dark images and
Gain images are obtained in turn. 10 dark images and Gain images each will be saved. (Note:
Sometimes the tube is not working well, i.e. the previous Ave value of Gain image’s brightest
area is within normal range but the later one is outside the range. In this case, continue with
the normal steps.)
4). Click “Create 60% GAIN Table”. And it will show “Create GAIN table successfully”. The
table created is saved in the Sub Folder “CorrectionFiles” under the Installation Folder, to be
used in other part calibrations than the breast.
5). If you need to stop the operation in midway, please click “Delete Image”, then repeat
operation.

Attention1: pay attention to the prompt message. When change the matrix or redo
the GAIN Calibration, please remember to click “Delete Image”.
Attention2: Mammo Don’t need this step.

6.8 FOV Calibration

Select “7.FOV Corr”, as shown in Figure 6.8-1. Operation as blow.

1). Set the proper X-ray dose, a red alterable square frame with an image will display after
exposure.
2). Move the cursor to the image, click the left mouse on the left upper side of the red square
frame; then click the right mouse on the right down side of the square, by which can directly
adjust the location and size to keep every side of the square in the effective image area.
3). After confirming the location and the size of the red square frame, please click “Save”.

Attention: each time click the mouse, ensure the coordinate of left cursor is on the
left side of the right cursor coordinate. The square can not be smaller than 300×300.

6.9 Test Calibration Result

Select “8.Pre Test”. As shown in Figure 6.9-1. Operation as below:

1). Select the requested testing item; either single or multiple is ok.
2). Click “Pre Test”. If the information cue line shows “Can start the pre-test, please expose”,
it can start to expose and get testing image, where calibration effect can be seen.

3). If the testing result needs to be saved, please click “Save” to save the image to the
designated file.

Click “Cancel”, if the status display shows “Not save the result” which means it is fail to save
the image.

Attention:
1. After changing the testing item or acquisition matrix, please do click “Pre Test”.
2. It can get the information for the untested reason from other displayed message
of screen.

6.10 Detector Resolution Testing

1). Select the “8.Pre Test” tab.


2). Set the distance between x-ray tube and detector as 1 meter without grid, paste the
resolution card in the center at the diagonal line direction, adjust the collimator to the largest.
3). Set the proper x-ray dose, and ensure the Current ROI Avg Value is 58880~60160.
4). Select “Pixel Line Corr”, “Dark Corr”, “30%GAIN Corr”.
5). Press “Pre-TEST” button, and expose to take a image.
6). Zoom in the image to 200%, and then adjust the image window level to check the
resolution.

6.11 Distortion Correction Test

Debugging Process:
1) Put the grid sheet on the first room carbon fiber board of
mammography machine.

Use above methods to confirm that every horizontal bar and vertical bar match in straight
line, which means the bending is within the range.

7. Exit of Calibration Tool


Click “Exit” to exit the calibration tool.

8. Other Related Settings


1. In the file “Generator_Serial.ini” under “Settings” Folder, change the serial port number
“Port” to enable GeneratorCtrl.exe software to connect to high voltage generator.
2. Change the serial port number “Port” in the SerialPort.ini. Default setting is 1. (“Port”
value can be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6…) This serial port is used to control the exchange between 2K and
4K image. Change the parameter of the communication box, “CommBox Type”. If the
parameter is 0, it means it is an old box or synchronizing box (white); if 1, it means it’s a new
high voltage control box (blue, version No. V3.1.6.0).

9. Routine Maintenance
1. Please do not shut off the power suddenly when operating the software.
2. Please do not delete the system files at will.
3. Please do not delete the desktop shortcut at will.
4. Do install the Anti-Virus in the console computer, and do not connect with the unrelated
U disk, software disk or some other disk.
5. Do not restore the system without the administrator's permission.
